Good service for a late night

Great vibe. Great drinks. Great service. Hostess told us 2 hour wait on a Saturday night. Ended up being half hour. Thankfully they still have a table ready for us 20 minutes later. Will always return when in Philly.

After a long hiatus, my husband & I were excited to revisit Ranstead Room this evening as we very much liked the decor and the drinks the last time we visited. This time, however, we felt disrespected by the hostess when we arrived. Because there is no way to make a reservation in advance and seating is first come first serve, we showed up a few minutes before the place opened so that we could sit in a booth. The hostess offered each of the 4 couples in front of us their choice to sit in a booth or at the bar, but when it was our turn, we were only offered the bar. This was especially confusing considering there were about 6 booths still open -- including one that accommodated 2 people. We asked for a booth, and she said no. We insisted and she finally relented, but this left a sour taste in our mouths for the evening. Why was everybody else given the option but we were not? We felt strangely judged and looked down upon. Given how small the place is, it's not as if the booths were especially far for the server to reach. While we don't expect any special treatment, we certainly don't appreciate the hostess playing favorites with some patrons over others, and because of this behavior, we are unlikely to return. It's a shame -- the server was great, and the drinks were good, but who cares if the hostess puts you in a bad mood as soon as you arrive?

No cover charge. Most drinks are Philly average about 12 to 16. They are excellent and well worth the wait to get in.
First come first serve, you need to go there and put your name and number in and they'll call you when your reservations ready. You have 15 minutes to come back and claim it or they will fill it.
No. All of their cocktails are made to order. None are frozen, and they have no frozen mix machines.
Public. No reservations though, first come first serve.
Cards are acceptable.
They serve 3 types of popcorn. If you want actual food, you can go to the other side to El Rey and get tacos.
Strictly enforced? I'd say no; but business casual should be sufficient.
Yes it is. During busy hours there can be a wait, especially with a group
