Great place to get calm and enjoy the weather

I do not recommend for tent camping. The park is gorgeous, and the sites are really nice, but the proximity of the tent sites to RV sites is way too close. I was unlucky enough to get stuck next to several class A type motor homes that ran their generators during all non-quiet hours. It's a bummer to stay in such a beautiful park that has the soundscape of a construction site.

There to fly drones and from that perspective the place is very tranquil and family friendly. Has a large body of water making the shore, treeline and sky an excellent canvas for photos and videos. Also, Spruce Run is spacious & less populated. Kayaking, sailing, camping & swimming is available with a suggestion to call ahead.

Carlos ~ Great question, thank you for asking! The water in the reservoir comes from many streams, The Mulhockaway Creek, Spruce Run, Willoughby Brook, and Black Brook are the main streams that used to converge here before the reservoir was built. The water is released into the South Branch of the Raritan River.
They are called Shelters because there is no electricity or running water inside but they are wooden cabin-like structures with two sets of bunk beds (4 beds) with room on the floor for two sleeping bags (6 people maximum); an indoor and an outdoor picnic table (bring pot holders so that you do not burn the table with hot pots and pans); an indoor woodstove and an outdoor fire ring with a grill top. Check our Shelters out in the video linked below! Please be advised that this video is old and that there is no swimming permitted at Spruce Run Recreation Area during 2021. https://www.facebook.com/watch/?v=2113817775297398
Only someone who speaks Spanish can understand that ... did you mean "si el agua"
You can bring it, but can't use it by the beach. You would need to put in somewhere else. Also make sure you have life vests.
There is a beach. Check the website for availability, I know it fills up fast, especially on a holiday or weekend.
Looked ok to me, when I got off the water and went to the bathroom you could see someone had just mopped, grass also looked trimmed and neat, it may have been the day you were there was the day before they had trimmed everything.
There are fees during the summer season. You can get a season pass or pay per car to enter.
Yes, very beautiful place

PARK ADVISORY: The swimming area is CLOSED for the 2022 season. The sandy beach will be open for sunbathing, picnicking, and play.
They should be open. They were open last weekend.
Hi George, Drones are not permitted to be flown over State Park Service property. Please visit www.njparksandforests.org and click on the "Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Policy" on the right side of the page for more information. Thank you.
Hi Ahsan, Aside from following all rules/regulations regarding fish you can keep (size, limit, etc) from NJ Fish and Wildlife, we are recommending NOT eating fish caught at Spruce Run Recreation Area right now due to the ongoing harmful algae bloom we've been experiencing. This is just a recommendation. Hope this information is helpful.
Camping open but beach is closed..no swimming
Swimming and wading is closed because of algae in the water. Boats are allowed.
Camping is Seasonal check online for dates of operation.
I don't know you should call
I really have no idea if you can enter but normally you enter the places as long as nobody is responsible anymore
And
As I have read comments and I have seen videos on You Tube, if you can but not on the beach.
Birding?
I would hope not. It is a nature park. You know, for people who will try to walk. And listen to the surroundings.
There is an algae bloom at spruce run hence the water closure. People are temp going to round valley up the street.
Yes. But the park has restrictions for times. I recently visited the place and it was not allowed. And it is. But the park has restrictions for times. Recently I visited the place and it was not allowed.

Do not drink or have contact with the water including, but not limited to, swimming, wading and water sports. Fish caught in this waterbody should not be eaten. Pets should not drink the water.
