Why have they made so difficult to get help for pets. I just dont understand this Someone needs to get rid of whoever is charge of this place they are wasting tax payers money I went there the othe day to get some information for my animals and the lady at the desk could not even answer one question she juat kept saying go on the web site go on the web site there where employees just walking around doing nothing and not one person was in there its unbelievable. Animals are suffering and cant get no help from the Chesapeake Humane Society.

Prior to scheduling my initial appointment with this company I sent them an email inquiring about the financial support they have mentioned on the website for heart worm treatments, since I can't afford them and im worried about my dog whose 15 y/o. I received a voice-mail from a staff member where she basically told me she can't help me based off of incorrect information she had come up with. I called and spoke with the coordinator for heart worm treatments and she corrected their demographic mistakes so we set my first appointment up. At the appointment I bring up my financial struggles again they issue my dog medicine and set me up for $200 first app, $200 second app, and $200 at each of my back to back appointments (so $400 in two days $800 total) i absolutely can not afford that and unfortunately I can't find any additional financial support at the moment. I call them a few days later because the medication they gave my pup is making him vomit blood. They tell me to cut it in half and give the medication to him 10 minutes apart with food each time. I try that but he was still puking blood. I called a week or so later to cancel all of my appointments( because I am going to go somewhere that ACTUALLY wants to help my dog) just to find out that I wasn't on a discounted plan (or informed of any options they had) and they seemed shocked to hear that my dog was puking blood despite me calling and speaking to a nurse and a staff member speaking to a nurse as well. I am extremely frustrated. My dog is very important to me and i though i was in good hands but I'm really disappointed. I thought I found someone who could actually help him. I was wrong.

Look up pet cremation services, there are a number of excellent ones in the area.
Wish I had seen this 3 weeks ago.
Hi Tammy, We refer all pet owners looking for a lost pet to Chesapeake Animals Services (2100 S. Military Hwy) since they handle strays for our city. So it's best to file a report with them. You can reach them at 757-382-8080. A few other resources for you on social media: There is a Facebook group called Lost & Found Pets - Hampton Roads which has a lot of success in reuniting pets with their family and keeping them out of the shelter. https://www.facebook.com/groups/lostandfoundpetshamptonroads/ I've had success reuniting pets with their families through the social media app Nextdoor. Thank you for helping this cat out! Kind regards, Lacy Kuller
Every breed can show up in the shelter. Try looking up Shiba Inu, not sima imu. It's best to learn about a breed before adoption.
Hi Anita, I'd recommend checking out www.petfinder.com and www.adopt-a-pet.com.
Yes, if you need shots or surgery for any kind of animal. I not sure if you can adopt at this one. Just call 1st to be sure.
Yes, the Chesapeake Humane Society is a 501c(3) nonprofit. We depend on donations and support from the community in order to carry out our mission. You can look Chesapeake Humane up on Guidestar.org. Our EIN is 23-7202196.
Pet licenses are $4 for spayed/neutered ($10 if not) for my peekapoos. I'm not sure if it changes according to the size of the dog. You can get the license at CHS or through the city. You'll need the rabies shot certificate, I think.
Yes definitely call ! Sorry to hear about your Rabbit
It depends on the animal. There are different prices for cats, dogs and rabbits. Cats are $60, rabbits are $75. Dogs vary from $90 to $150+ according to weight.
Call non emergency # to get animal control to respond to address
You can always call or send an email to confirm. They're very responsive.
I think they accept anything but opened cat food
Thank you for thinking of us however we are not able to accept used pillows as donations for the shelter. We can accept towels and fleece blankets.
We do not have small animals at our shelter however many shelters in Hampton Roads do. Please check with Chesapeake Animal Services, Virginia Beach SPCA, Virginia Beach Animal Care, Norfolk SPCA, Norfolk Animal Care and Control, and Portsmouth Humane Society. You may be able to do a search for adoptable ferrets on www.petfinder.com or www.adoptapet.com.
On the website Under their list of services they provide you will see a link that says click here for our price list. Click it.
Hi Alexis, I'm sorry you are faced with having to surrender your dogs. We do not take in owner surrenders here at CHS. If you are a Chesapeake resident, you need to reach out to Chesapeake Animal Services. They take in all owner surrenders and strays for the city of Chesapeake. You can reach them at 757-382-8080 to make an appointment. Kind regards, Lacy
The Humane place is charity. I am grateful for their help. Your personal vet will be best, if you can afford it because of the personal care you can get.
Yes!
I think you should call and make an appointment
Hi Diane, Unless the bird is injured or in danger, it is best to leave them be. It could be a fledgling bird learning how to fly. If you determine that the bird needs help, you can call Wildlife Response at 757-543-7000 or the VBSPCA Wildlife hotline: 757-263-4762
Hi Mark, you can find pricing and information on spay and neuter on our website: www.chesapeakehumane.org/clinic/. Please call 757-546-5355 to schedule your appointment. Kind regards, Lacy Kuller
Hi Christina, We offer low-cost spay and neuter services to all dogs, regardless of breed. Please give us a call to schedule your appointment: 757-546-5355. Our clinic staff can answer any additional questions you have when you call in! Kind regards, Lacy Kuller
Move. Cats are worth it.
About 75 dollars
Richard if you use the phone it gives you the information away it goes to voicemail. They are either with a customer and if you don't leave a message they can't get back to you. Now if you left a message and during business hours they will return your call if they're message machine could be full. I personally call them back. They are very busy all the time. Now if it isn't open it tells you to call back during business hours. They have different hours they're not the same everyday and those days that they do surgery and shots. They do have a schedule on things that they will do for the month which you can stop by and pick up. I hope this helps you.
CHESAPEAKE Humane society
Visit Chesapeake animal services on Military Highway
I believe you may have to reach out to Chesapeake Animal services. The chesapeake humane society has a low cost spay/neuter vaccine clinic and cat shelter.
No, but keep in mind there will be a small additional fee for services for unaltered pets.
They adopt out the surrendered animals, as well as found ones, lost ones, etc. Anything can turn up in a shelter, the best thing to do is call. I know I've seen many small animals like rabbits and such at shelters, so it's worth a call!
Its definitely worth a phone call I stood at a gas station collecting donations, holding signs, made the garden look amazing, Promise you! Just say Tshirt sent you Ask for Teresa, guaranteed she will find something you could help with
It wasn't hard at all for me to volunteer I worked in the garden and held up signs to collect donations. Just call and ask them They are very nice!
Sometimes they have a huge cat room for people to adopt cats.
Yes they do
Food, medicine, blankets, newspapers, bowls, toys etc
Yes, they must be leashed.
You need to contact a wildlife veterinarian appointed or qualified by city. Ask a vet for the number.
There are cats and kittens for adoption on site.
Chesapeake Animal Services is the open admission shelter for the city of Chesapeake. They would be the facility to contact. Their number is 382-8081. Hope this helps!
