My brother was able to move to Five Star several months ago after living in a lower tier facility in another part of Reno. What an incredible difference that move made! The staff members at Five Star are very caring, thoughtful, and communicative with family members. We don't live in the area, which makes outreach from staff all the more helpful. The facility itself is much more like a resort than anything else. They offer entertainment, a restaurant, a nice snack bar, and a very comfortable common area for visiting with residents. Resident apartments are roomy and well thought out with ADA safety equipment and ease of access primary considerations. My brother uses a walker to get around and he is able to easily do so on the ground floor level where all the amenities are located. We are so happy that he has a safe, comfortable, and professionally-run facility to call home. We highly recommend Five Star Premiere Residences.

Our parents moved to Five Star Premier Residences from another high-end independent living community in the local area. The friendly, compassionate, and caring staff and management team made all the difference in the experience of our parents and family. There is a genuine feeling of community between the residents and staff—smiles, friendly conversations, and activities galore. The employees and managers go above and beyond to know each resident personally and treat them like a beloved family member. My mother had a sudden health decline. The senior management team went to extraordinary efforts to help us monitor her health crisis and provide referrals for “trusted” care resources. Additionally, they have all the activities and services of a five-star hotel.

I have lived here for 3 1/2 years and this feels like home. I love how big my apartment is! I have enough space for when my family comes to visit. What's better is that I don't have to cook or clean anymore; Five Star provides those services. I also love that I can walk down the hall to have my hair and nails done. I am a social person and I never feel alone here. You can always go and visit with people. And they have lots of activities like bingo (and I love winning)!

Five Star is a happy place for retirees. The wonderful employees in all venues of service here are kind, caring, encouraging, thoughtful and considerate. Their patience with a variety of situations that might come up is remarkable. Many residents express their appreciatioin for all that is given to us. I am a very grateful resident.

How much is a studio trying to relocate from Honolulu to sin city early Feb.

My children live out of town and have busy lives. I know I need to move to a senior living community but I don’t want to burden my children with downsizing my house. What can I do? It’s overwhelming to think about doing it all on my own.

We hear this concern from seniors often. Sorting through and packing up a lifetime of memories and belongings can be overwhelming. One resource we like to share with families is a group of professionals called Senior Move Managers. They are experts at handling all of the details of a later life move. You can find one near your home by visiting the National Association of Senior Move Managers or Certified Relocation & Transition Specialist.

Is it a section 8, or Hud?!?

When I visit assisted living communities with my daughter, I find it all a little intimidating. Moving from a small house to a big community is frightening. I just don’t know if I can learn my way around a new place.

My father needs more help than we can provide for him to be safe at home. I think he realizes it but is reluctant to leave the friends he’s made in his neighborhood. Dad has lived there for about 25 years. What can we do to reassure him he can stay connec

Good question! Embarking on a new chapter in life doesn’t mean old friends have to be left behind. Assisted living communities offer a wide range of programs and events residents can invite guests to participate in. And they also offer transportation services so your dad can attend events in and around town with his old buddies. Fortunately, there are other ways your father can stay in touch. Social media channels like Facebook or a video chat service such as Skype are two easy avenues for staying connected.

My mom agreed that it was time for her to move to an assisted living community this winter. She knows she just isn’t safe living alone any longer. We found a community Mom seemed to love. Now we can’t seem to get her motivated to actually make the move. I

This sometimes happen when it actually comes time to make the move. Your mom is probably anxious and a little uncertain. A late life transition like this isn’t easy to make. What might help is to get her involved in some of the events and activities at the new community now, instead of waiting until she actually moves in. Talk with the staff to see about helping her find a buddy with similar interests and hobbies that she can bond with during her visits. Becoming more familiar with the community and with a few fellow residents can help make the move feel a little less intimidating.
