Great friendly staff. Have a nice back outdoor area to smoke your cigar. Nothing fancy, but just right.

My girlfriend and I were stuck at the airport for 7 hours so we decided to venture to the city. First stop, a cigar shop of course. I called ahead and the older gentleman on the phone was nice and accommodating. When I arrived at Up Down, we were greeted like homeless people asking for spare change. The guy with long sandy blonde hair was nothing short of incredibly rude and borderline offensive. His demeanor was offputting, negative and simply mean. When I spoke he stared at me speechless. No greeting, no responses, nothing. When forced to speak after asking him a few questions about where the patios at, he begrudgingly gave one word answers “yes”, “yes”, “yes”. At this point I figured his dog must have died recently, so no biggie, I just brushed it off. I then gave him 3 very nice cigars, told him what they were (it was a well known brand, he had to know what they were) and he just stared at me for a second, looked away, no thanks man, cheers, nothing. My family owns a well known cigar shop and my girlfriends family owns and operates a very successful cigar brand. I’m not looking for special treatment because of this, but I’m familiar with cigar culture, and this guy failed at every turn. It was incredibly disappointing and embarrassing to be treated by a fellow tobacconist in such a disrespectful, dismissive way. We were hoping to spend several hours at Up Down but left within minutes because of his terrible service. Not only was he rude and short with us, we heard him condescendingly tell the lady in front of us (after she asked for help with a recommendation), “we have thousands of cigars, I mean, you’re going to have to be a lot more specific than that”. I’ve grown to love the cigar industry bc of its mutual respect and inclusion for the craft, the tobacco and the people who make this whole thing work. At the end of the day, it’s about the people. 250 hands touch a cigar before it’s ever smoked, countless deals are made from relationships between brands and retail partners, and lifelong connections are made between retailers and customers. It is in my opinion, this guy at Up Down has no place in the cigar industry. I don’t say this lightly either, it’s simply a matter of common courtesy, basic good manners and a respect for a fellow cigar smoker. It’s very simple. I truly hope this guy is not the owner of Up Down, as that would be bad for the industry as a whole. As long as he’s there, I won’t visit. I never leave bad reviews, heck I don’t even leave reviews in general. My experience with the long haired angry guy was so egregious I felt it would be negligent for me not to let others know. Thanks, Hunter Rowe

Thanks for reaching out. We do not carry oils or any vapor products.
This "thing' is a full service cigar shop, that sells cigars, pipes and accessories. It is also a smoking lounge.
We are a 21+ establishment as that is the law in Illinois. If you are stopping in quickly to pick something up and your children are with you, that isn't really a problem as it's a short time frame. If you're planning on coming in and enjoying a cigar, children are not allowed. I hope that helps.
No membership, you can go there and smoke. They usually ask if you bring your own in to by one from the store. You don't have to smoke it but it sure helps them.
No we do not. Commercial trade with Cuba is still prohibited by U.S. law via the embargo. It is presently legal for U.S. citizens to buy Cuban goods while traveling overseas, but any import with intent to sell, or selling Cuban goods within the U.S. is illegal. Congress will have to vote down the current embargo we can import and still Cuban cigars. We sell wonderful cigars from Nicaragua, Honduras, the Dominican Republica, and many other countries with more consistency and higher quality control than Cuban cigars presently have.
