So much fun and history...

What a great place to see many old trains! Beautiful grounds!

Amazing place. Not a museum, better. One hundred year old steam locomotive takes you on an hours long ride with narrative by knowledgable conductors of the era. Functional roundhouse was very cool. Engines and old tools as well as a forge shop. Guide Ed was an encyclopedia of information, funny, personable, seems like he spent many years working in the roundhouse. Reasonable prices. Cannot recommend this enough. Can't wait to go back.

Austin was a very knowledgeable tour guide! Very interesting! 👍👍

I am a volunteer at Railtown. The trains only run from April through October on weekends, and on Wednesdays in July. But the park is still open, and Roundhouse tours are available from 1030am-3pm 7 days a week.
Yes
No there aren’t. But there are restrooms at the station when you leave. The trip is about 45 mins.

It's just under 2 hours (110 miles). Take 99 North to G St exit in Merced. Turn right on G St (G runs into Snelling Rd). After about 16 miles, turn right onto CA-59 N and watch for La Grange Rd/J59 on the left. Turn left on J59 and follow it for 26 miles to CA-108/120 E. Follow 108 E toward Sonora. Jamestown (Main St) is on the right. Turn onto Main St and follow the signs to Railtown 1897. If you're not comfortable on 2 lane country roads, there are several (less scenic and longer, unfortunately) alternate routes. Railtown runs the trains only in summer with special themed excursions at Halloween and Christmas, but the park is open all year with guided tours available most days. You can also just wander around the park but be sure to pick up a map in the park office. Keep in mind that Railtown is a real survivor, a 122 year old, unrestored working steam railroad. It's fascinating to children but it can be dangerous so make sure the little ones are well supervised. Enjoy your visit!
Appears well cared for and routinely maintained.
Yes, Dogs are allowed on the train as long as they are well behaved and are on a leash.
