Woke up to this beautiful view! It was the perfect spot to park overnight with beautiful hiking trails all around! Definitely saved in my Favorites!

This is the place to be if you are a rock climber. You will find dirt bagging, van living, and rock climbers of all types squatting here. This is not the place for a regular camp grounds type person. People are serious about climbing, camping is a second thought. This is a climbing culture campsite. There is a vault toilet that is cleaned regularly, but make sure to bring your own toilet paper. There are plenty of flattish areas to set up a tent. You are walking distance from a lot of diverse climbing. There were routes for our young kids and the experienced trad climbers in the group. We got water at Horse Thief lake campsite. It’s about a mile down the road. Custer State Park is about a 30 minute drive with more great climbing.

The views and trails are amazing here. I had gone here with a few friends for a camping trip through a portion of the west. Thankfully you can camp here with a tent for free which makes it really nice to just get up, go hiking, and maybe even rock climbing. They have varies rocks set up with anchors just for climbing. Just down the road from this campsite/trailhead is a nice lake with a small cliff diving part right by the road. That was my first time cliff diving and boy did it take me awhile to jump. The actually mt. Rushmore is not nearly as fun as everything else you can do here so I do recommend coming for the trails, climbs, and water fun!

Beautiful spot for camping, and the closest campsite to Mount Rushmore. It could use more designated spots and parking, but it's unlikely to run out of room as long as you're willing to camp off the road.
