Great spot for lunch outdoors on a sunny day. Amazing dumplings, great service and the spicy food was so well balanced that even I could enjoy it.

The service was very good, and we enjoyed the meal. Our server said dishes were meant to be shared, but I think most would have been comfortable between two people at most. The cocktails were fine. I’d go back again for the food and recommend it to others. I wish there were a few more options/modifications for my vegetarians out there, but as a carnivore, I felt like there were plenty of tasty choices .

We were seated outside where it was so dark we had to use our phones' flashlight to see the menu. The waitress was so lacking in energy and enthusiasm that she seemed depressed/soulless. The food was extremely salty to the point of being inedible. The prices were exorbitant for portions so small. The waitress never came back to ask how the food was or ask if we needed anything. We were in a hurry so walked up to the counter to pay. We were rudely told to return to our table and wait. TDLR: terrible food and service – 0 stars.

Maybe the best meal we had in Charleston. Excellent service in a casual setting. The flies were bad, but thankfully they shared the little table fan to help. If you like to explore unique tastes off the Charleston standard, you’ll love stop. Our favs - okonomiyaki, dumplings, fried rice Cons - the flies, no biscuits on the menu

So technically any Italian restaurant that has tomato sauce or Parmesan cheese or a Japanese restaurant that has seaweed or soy sauce “uses” msg as it’s a natural occurring amino acid found in many varied sources. I recommend reading Harold McGee to learn more. But Xiao bao is not like American snack foods where they season heavily with a ton of msg.
Open all day. Dinner menu starts at 4:30pm
There’s always some vegetarian options- Okonomiyaki is one option on both lunch and dinner and is a popular/ beloved dish not found many places. The menu in general is a focused smaller one so not many options for dietary restrictions in general.
We have limited inside dining at 6’ distances, masks must be worn in restrooms, plenty of covered outdoor seating, sensible disinfecting of common surfaces etc .. Email us with any specific questions! Thank you
