We find that February is the best time to see the most chickadees. Here are tips: they love WHOLE sunflower seeds coz we've stood out there for hours and this is what they pick out of our hands. They LOVE LOUD, HEARTY, DEEP BELLY LAUGHS! The more you laugh, the more birds come. So, tell a few jokes to get your belly ready, it'll be sore like a ab workout the next day. You are welcome, enjoy!

The birds are hungry, and are fairly bold. If you go on a weekday, with bird seed, they will find you. If you hike to the west side of the ridge you get views of Tahoe.

Suck a cool trail, people come here to cross country ski and snowshoeing but we just walk around in out boots. Bring some seed for the birds and you can feed them from your hand!

Pets are allowed. Currently, there is still quite a bit of snow on the trail though.

If you are coming from Reno there are a couple places in the Galena area, specifically a couple shops right before you start going up the hill (Galena Sports or Snowind Sports). Alternatively there is a shop up the hill at the Sky Tavern ski area called Mountain Top Sports. There is nothing at the actual starting location (Tahoe Meadows) to Chicadee Ridge however.
