We live next door to a house being built by Timberline Construction. The HOA rules specifically say they are NOT to work on the weekends, but they work all weekend long. As homeowners, we never have a break from their construction process even at 7am on a Saturday morning. Their workers park in our driveway and park in our front yard. UPDATE: Another Saturday morning, and Timberline is blasting their music.

We hired Timberline Construction to build our dream home in Truckee. We absolutely loved working with Christian and his team. Their proactive communication, flexibility with design changes and the overall ease and simplicity of working with Timberline stands out. The attention to detail was superb and their in-house finish carpentry really made the project. My husband is an engineer and I am a designer, so we are not easy clients and Timberline Construction exceeded our expectations!!

Our relationship and experience with Timberline Construction and Christian Edwards requires some explanation. In 2005 my wife Cindy and I bought a twenty acres parcel in Juniper Hill above Glenshire just east of Truckee with the intention of building a log home. After my retirement we moved to Truckee in 2015 and began the process of securing a log home builder. Unfortunately that contractor was both unscrupulous and ill-informed about construction practices in Truckee, resulting in a year of lost time and over $10,000 in squandered funds. Our experience with Timberline was the complete opposite. Christian is a consummate builder. He knows the business thoroughly and has the best crew of workers. In fact, during the course of the build there were only 4 days where someone was not working. As a result, the build moved along at a brisk pace. We began excavation in May of 2017 and finished in January of 2018. Since we were living in a trailer on the property only a few hundred feet from the site, we were able to observe every phase of the process. Perhaps most important is Christian’s skill as a communicator. As rank novices to home construction, we very much appreciated his kind patience in explaining every step of the way. Amazingly enough, we came in only slightly over budget, largely to his help and expertise. From excavation to the certificate of occupancy, there were never any surprises or setbacks. Even after the completion of the house Christian continued to check with us for any shortcomings. His attention to detail and suggestions on how to cut costs were most appreciated. Over the five years we have lived in Truckee we have talked to many people who have built homes here. Many of their stories are filled with cost overruns, weeks of no progress, unacceptable quality of work, and general frustration. We experienced none of these. We were so fortunate to find Timberline Construction.

After an extensive search of the Tahoe area to find the right contractor, we selected Christian Edwards and the Timberline Construction team to completely refurbish the interior of our Tahoe Donner home. Christian and Marc Hassel-Cramer, our construction supervisor, worked smoothly with our designer, our tight schedule and our extensive wish list that included custom cabinetry and furniture. Every surface and system of the house was updated. From the first interview, where Christian suggested a solution to a complex ventilation problem to the final correction of a walnut hardwood floor issue, the project ran smoothly. All of Timberline’s sub-contractors were a pleasure to work with and did an outstanding job. We highly recommend Timberline Construction.

Questions & Answers

Are there any special building requirements for Martis Camp construction?

Timberline Construction | Feb 17, 2022

When building in Martis Camp, it is required to follow the approved design and building regulations governed by the Architectural Review. Since groundwater is known to be high in this area, proper waterproofing and drainage is necessary in design and construction to avoid any issues. Martis Camp is located in Placer County therefore you will be working with the Placer County Building Department for permits etc.

Are there any special building requirements to build lakefront on Lake Tahoe?

To build lakefront on Lake Tahoe, you must build a home that holds up to heavy snow loads, strong winds and large temperature swings. The home must be structurally sound with a firm foundation to sustain the change in seasons. You must work with the regulations of the building departs and TRPA to build a home that meets code and land coverage. The home should be energy efficient and resourceful in building materials. A large freezer in the garage to hold all the wild game meat from hunting is a must.
