My employer had a company offsite for 70+ people at Balcones Springs and we had a fabulous time! The staff was kind, very accommodating with our requests, the grounds were well kept, rooms were clean and comfortable, and food was great! We had a great experience and would love to come back sometime!

The place is beautiful and surrounded by nature. But one thing that made me really upset is that they have this macaw (a huge parrot) imprisoned by itself in a tiny cage that is not even big enough to open its wings. The bird has bouts of anger (can you blame it? It has been in a very small space for 6 years by itself) and looks very unhappy. For a place that cares so much about being in close contact with nature, keeping a majestic animal like a Scarlet Macaw in such condition is disappointing to say the least.

I spent 2 nights at The Retreat for a corporate event. It was downright delightful! Coming from Cedar Park, I couldn't believe how close it was. I was so excited to have my own cabin (and my own bathroom!) for 2 nights. I felt like anything we could have wanted, they were able to provide. The staff was so nice and so friendly. We managed to pick a day for outdoor activities where the temperature never got above freezing - they provided outdoor heaters, cider and blankets. We didn't let 31 degree weather stop us from ziplining and axe throwing, ha! We even had fires in the fireplaces in our meeting and dining rooms. I think I pretty much ate and drank coffee all day long.

Rules may vary from group to group, and some events may choose to be pet-free at their discretion. However, for the groups that choose to allow it, we are dog-friendly. There is a refundable pet deposit of $100, and a nightly pet fee (non-refundable) of $25. There are no breed or size restrictions, however any pet displaying aggression towards guests or other animals will be asked to leave the property immediately. Nuisance activity such as constant barking, “pottying” indoors, destroying property, or stealing food will be addressed and may result in being asked to leave the property. Owners are encouraged to keep their pets leashed for the safety and security of their pets, and kenneling animals that are to be left alone unsupervised in cabins is preferred. All guests of The Retreat should note that there are several friendly and well-behaved “resident” dogs living on property.
