Cool history. Just know the mine flooded in 1943 so you can’t go down into it. It was pricey considering you can’t go into the mine. On top of that, the tour guides work for tips which doesn’t make much sense considering how much they charge. The mill is really neat to see and they’ve set up a nice little museum in it. Our tour guide was awesome (Andrew). Gold panning and gemstone panning was a highlight for the kiddos. Overall I have mixed feelings about it but would still recommend a visit at least once.

Very fascinating tour of the mill and tunnel. Our tour guide, Brandon, was great. He was patient and answered all questions well. The gold panning was also fun!

Allii did an amazing job as tour guide. She is incredibly knowledgeable and invested in the Argo mill. Fun, personable and answered all our questions and explained how the mill ran very well. The Argo mill site is full of historical significance to mining in Central Colorado and the tour conveys such a strong sense of what it was like to be part of the Idaho Springs community during that time.

The Argo Mining tour was incredibly enjoyable, and rich with historical information. Our tour guide, Josh, was very knowledgeable and charismatic. I definitely recommend the tour!

Why do you not accept summer day campS to tour?

Perhaps they don't currently accept those types of groups due to the potentially hazardous environment. Acidic water runoff, the safety stair retrofitted mill itself, and the hill the mill is on could pose risks to overly curious individuals. The informative part of the tour, provided by the guide and signs, involves a considerable amount of chemistry and history; I believe the experience would be overall more enjoyable at an older age.
