The place is beautiful and you don't usually see a lot of people in the area.

You can park right by the Lake. It is very convenient to take kayaks or paddle boards to the lake. Parking gets a little crowded in the afternoon but there is also overflow parking.

Questions & Answers

Who were the owners of this plantation back then and now?

I wondered that, too. From Meck County's website: "The Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation Department first opened the 654 acre Latta Plantation Park Nature Preserve in 1981. After the creation of the Nature Preserve Master Plan in 1997, the name was officially changed to Latta Plantation Nature Preserve. In the 1800's, most of the area was a cotton plantation owned by Mr. James Latta, a traveling merchant who first purchased the land in 1799."

Is there any cost to launch your own kayaks

Nope! Just bring your Kayak and enjoy a sunny day at the lake.
