Visited a friend who recently moved here. The facility is pleasant, very nicely maintained and residents seem friendly. Had dinner with my friend and that was less than satisfactory. I need to eat gluten free and the only thing available was a plain pork chop. There was another entree choice that would have been acceptable, but it ran out even though there were apparently considerably fewer people at dinner than usual. The staff serving in the dining room ranged from unhelpful to harried. One gentleman did try to get me something to have with the meat, but there was apparently nothing available in the kitchen. I don't know if this facility doesn't provide special diets or if that needs prior arrangement. My friend likes living there and hasn't expressed any dissatisfaction with anything there. Since I wrote this I learned from staff in the office that no special diets are accommodated. It seems strange to me that a residence catering to the elderly who often have special dietary needs would be unwilling/unable to accommodate these.

I lived here several months before moving to Virginia. It is a great place. Nice fellow residents and the people who work there are very friendly & service-oriented. I'd definitely recommend Indigo Pines.

My 85-year-old aunt sold her home in Bluffton and moved into a nearby two-bedroom apartment complex. It was not long after that we realized, though she did not, that it was not safe for her or others if she continued to drive. She felt very isolated and lonely in the new apartment. She became over reliant and very demanding of friends and family, who have jobs and families themselves. Though she is in reasonably good health, she was faced with safety, transportation, socialization and other day to day challenges. Indgio Pines was recommended to me as a wonderful and affordable independent living alternative. Christine Lashinger of Indigo Pines patiently listened as I described the situation. She then briefed on their facility and programs. I could already sense her sincere empathy and compassion. On one of my trips to Bluffton I drove my aunt by Indigo Pines but she refused to go in. Though her recent move to the apartment was not working out for her, she was reluctant to make another change. Christine politely followed up with me occasionally to see how things were going. We jointly came up with the idea to invite my aunt for lunch at Indigo Pines and stay to play bingo in the afternoon. It was a smashing success. A few weeks later my aunt concluded she could no longer drive and agreed to give up her car. I contacted Christine and we arranged for my aunt to be picked up again, visit for lunch, meet more residents and see some of Indigo Pines units, including furnished and occupied units. A week or so later and my aunt was anxious to make the move. Making a move for an 85-year-old is not easy especially when moving from a 3-bedroom home to a 2-bedroom apartment then to a one-bedroom apartment all in the space of six months. From decision to move, to move in took about six weeks of incredible teamwork between Christine, my aunt and myself. Christine helped with everything. She even visited my aunt's apartment in Bluffton to advise which of her existing furniture would work best in her new apartment. She took the time on the earlier visits to get to know my aunt and her interests and then helped find the most suitable unit for her, with a balcony where she could keep her plants! The Indigo Pines team expanded the day we arrived with the movers. Jack, the Maintenance Director was just finishing up refurbishing her unit to look like new. He got her TVs up and running, discarded an old TV, repaired a broken leg on a couch and more. Ken, the General Manager, returned the cable box from her pervious apartment, went to her room to teach her how to use the TV remote controls, Ken and Christine have been following up with the local phone company to resolve phone line problems. Shortly after moving in my aunt had a doctor appointment back in Bluffton. Though the Indigo Pines shuttle normally only operates on Hilton Head Island, sensing my aunt's anxiety about transport to her appointment, Ken was able to have the shuttle take her to the appointment. Though I live four hours away, I was there a few days in advance to assist my aunt with the move. Late in the day, after the movers left, I went off to the grocery store to pick up some essentials. When I returned, I opened the door and Christine was in the room talking with my aunt, warmly assimilating her into her new home. Fast forward a few weeks, the staff support continues, my aunt is happy, comfortable, safe, making friends, enjoys the food and activities and her transportation needs are being met. She is happy as are the rest of our family and friends. Sorry for the long review, but these are very important decisions that potential residents and their families must make and need to do so with confidence. I am confident my aunt made the right choice with Indigo Pines
