Had a very rushed consultation for hernia surgery. I was told I would need surgery on both left and right sides, despite never feeling a hernia on my left side. I trusted my gut and got a second opinion. I'm glad I did because I was told no hernia was detected on the left side. Either the diagnosis by Dr. Melvin was incorrect or it was an attempt to make more money via unnecessary surgery. Make sure you trust your gut feeling, only you can advocate for yourself.

Dr. Melvin is a very caring fantastic Doctor!!! He goes out of his way to make sure you are as comfortable as possible and he’s willing to work with other Doctors to help make you comfortable when you go home too. He seen me everyday even on the weekend. He tells you exactly what to expect whether it’s good or bad.

I cannot remember the date of my first visit with Dr. Melvin, somewhere around 1998-2000, I believe. He was at Vanderbilt at the time and I had been referred by Dr. Tom Abel for an adjustment to my Neuro-Gastric Stimulator. Dr. Melvin was kind, caring, listened intently to my needs and showed compassion. He then did the adjustments, which required no surgery. With each visit and surgery, his patience and understanding and outstanding care have only become better. Within the first 2 years of visits with Dr. Melvin, I required surgery to replace my stimulator. One day surgery, but I was given much better care than previous hospitalizations requiring a week more in-patient care. He and his staff gave excellent care and made sure I was always well-informed and all questions were answered. At every visit, he listens, he cares and he gives the very best care available, in my opinion. I am forever thankful for two physicians in my life, Dr. Tom Abel who diagnosed my Gastroparesis and cared for me until I was able to get the first stimulator implant. And, Dr. Willie Melvin, who has done every adjustment, every replacement since the initial surgery. I recently had to have G-J tubes placed, Again, Dr. Melvin was there; caring and giving me the best possible medical care I could receive. When I pray, I thank God for placing him in my path. He has become an extended family member. We love him and appreciate him more than words can tell. P. Diane Chandler Hickory Valley, TN
