The upper road (2 miles from the campground) says it is closed 15 Nov - 15 Jul.

Beautiful place with two fire-pits and what looks like a spring. There is a pond less than 1/2 mile away, and to hike to Ben Lomond Peak is less than 3 miles. Beautiful drive to reach, but the road is treacherous.

I suppose this is a first come first serve camp ground? No fees?

Correct. Word of advice though. Find a spot off the trail a bit. Some folks drive it like a race track and kick up a mean dust storm and ain't nobody wanna camp in that!
