No coordination of care amongst the various doctors caring for my father, (and my mother, when she was there -- she passed away a few months ago). No pro-active care, it is very hard to get answers, or even to ask questions. When my mother was in for surgery they tried to send her home the same day, even though she couldn't catch her breath and couldn't stand up, much less walk. When we said there was no way we could bring her home, the nurse told us to take her to the EMERGENCY ROOM AT ANOTHER HOSPITAL. I'm utterly baffled at the care my parents have received at Sloan. It seems like they were excellent test subjects for various medications, but when it came to actually caring for them in acute periods of crisis, they were ignored.

Most unsympathetic hospital ever ! Stay away from this place! If I could give zero it would be to much! Update! …. My daughter is dead! She went to Hackensack hospital for gallstones and sluge Sloan had my daughter on phone for a hour convincing her she needed to go to sloan in city, where they did nothing but convince her to take another biopsy on a injured liver She originally diagnosed for stage 1 breast cancer in august 2018 still have the paperwork from Englewood hospital , but decided to go to Sloan for surgery thinking they were better, sloan took out extra lymph nodes a few weeks after her original surgery, after she was released saying there was no spread anywhere but they wanted to take out more … why? Why? Why? Which She developed lymphedema because of that ! Also she developed some kind of lymph node leak which lead to numerous surgeries a drain and tremendous amount of complications, I was labeled as a nuisance because I needed answers and I needed to ask questions as her mother, I was questioned in conference rooms with security guards and told I would need to leave which added so much stressed my daughter, and extreme FEAR !!! I was told by the doctor that my questions were stupid, since I’m not in the medical field and have never dealt with such serious issues I had nowhere to turn and so many questions were left unanswered, In July my daughter went to Hackensack Hospital for gallstone and sludge and high liver enzymes due to medication , they convinced her to be transferred to Sloan hospital, where they insisted on giving her a second biopsy on a injured liver , I begged for the G.I. doctor to come in because he didn’t see her in three days , her psychiatrist came in days before and told her how does she feel about approaching death ! She text this to the entire family and we where shaken up by his remarks ! Did he know something? they took me in a conference room with a security guard Who was more compassionate than the patient representative who was useless all the doctors and nurses combined … I told A breast nurse practitioner name Sabrina we took her to Philadelphia lymph specialist to see why her lymph nodes are leaking she point blank said we don’t like that! Why did you take her somewhere else! as my daughter was Suffering, She developed sepsis and she’s gone ! I was trying to get her to another hospital but that never happened! As the nurses station was making popcorn and charge nurse was telling me the doctor saw her when the doctor never came in … they told us The doctor came to see her and we were not in the room which is totally ridiculous !I asked them to pull cameras and the charge nurse laughed in my face! , and called me a liar for saying Dr was not there , as my daughter was dying! I cannot believe how heartless we were treated, The patient representative called me constantly to convince me she was on my side yet scolded me in front of security! Told me I was disrespectful and I should speak to them the way they wanted or I would be removed! I had No say I had No right! I was just trying to protect my daughter and ask questions and get her the care that she needed! MSK Her Name was Tatiana Jovic Alliota she was 37 years old, a daughter ,a sister ,a wife ,a beautiful person! Do you care MSK??? Why did she die?? A Legend! And her Name will Make a difference ! I don’t want anyone to experience the horror my family went though! A entire community is devastated! Everyone should know how horrible this place is !

Yes, MSKCC does. However. ALL Dvantage plans are accepted as what they pay at 20% of agreed upon amount. Then you would be responsible for the remaining g 80% left of that. It has been my experience as a patient who went from private insurance over the decades to Medicare ( original) to learn before hand to NEVER give up on paying the large sum I pay for private insurance because of the cost. My care has/ is excellent of course. There are situations where I tried to get serious situations cared for by outside hospitals other than MSKCC. I'm grateful for the dr. Who said, " don't go advantage, " instead and he explained why. If you go to their website you will see in the last year they say they accept all advantage plans, caveat is pay attention to the part you pay. Having paid for myself. My son and daughter from 2004 to 2018 with private insurance I knew up front I wouldn't be able to afford the bills that I had been paying all these years if I went to an advantage plan. Im sorry to

I'm almost certain you will. Our son is receiving treatment her for a neuroblastoma relapse in the brain and they have always been very particular about appointments and appointment times even after he was accepted as a patient. They are crazy busy, but amazing in the care they provide.

See if your insurance is a participating provider first. Advantage plans read on web site of MSKCC exactly what your responsibility of payment will be. Then let's just say the 80% is very, very high. I know because I paid off 3 people on private insurance and worked to pay off those bills for as many years as I worked. I worked to live but my balance outside private ins. That was participating COST me as much if not more than a years salary for each of us. I workedc20 years I paid 20 years large sums nearly what my under just 65 000.00 a yr salary paid me. Now original medicare and high cost of private participating ins. I pay 0. On the other hand I have no eye coverage ect.. that advantage plans cost. I feel the benefit to see my children grow into adults and have continued care that is best works for me. Yes, the system is flawed big time. But without private ins. There is much not covered by these plans. My mom has experience with them and there are lifetime caps/ cost prohibit

Take your father to hospital for treatment. If he's financially in need of assistance, he may be eligible for charity care through the hospital. But he must provide proof of his income, bank account info, utility bills, etc. Call (or visit) the hospital and find out.

For initial assessment & plan of treatment if positively need treatment, absolutely initiate in NYC THEN follow up in closest satellite, Sloan MDS USUALLY are very helpful.

Asking technical questions on a general site like google may not be the best option to get the information you need. Plus each condition and the treatment is highly indivigualized. The hospital has a large number of highly trained people whose job is to give you options.

MSK IS A NATIONALLY / WORLD RECOGNIZED CANCER CENTER. Typically rated at the top or in the top 10 for many types of cancers. With that said I am sure they are capable for anything that comes, but I agree that it is critical that you work your GP or find resources at MSK that can get you the proper diagnosis and treatments.
Sloan does all tests.. If your x-ray or MRI indicates that, then along with consultation with the specialist, then one will be done.

There are a few hotels around the hospital but they are small. The hospital will provide immediate family with lodging if you talk to the doctor or hospital staff.
