This was an amazing park!! It's like visiting a different planet! Lots of fossils to be found!! Interesting history and is one of the protected dark sky parks along Lake Huron!

Fantastic place to explore for all rockhunters! We found many fossils and rocks to bring home! Worth a day trip!

Simply amazing. The landscape of the reclaimed quarry is nothing I've seen in Michigan before and I've been all over! So much to explore and more fossils then you'll likely see elsewhere.

Fossils everywhere! Quarry is somewhat accessible with a stroller, plenty of gorgeous views of the lake too.

If you cut through the back of the parking lot, the quarry is probably a half mile. If you take the trails around to the more popular quarry entrance it's probably a mile-ish. Not a large or sandy beach, but plenty of people were swimming the day we went. You can walk in from the shore if you don't want to jump.
There are a few in Alpena. Very nice place to stay and the Rock Port is a wonderful place. Once you go there, you'll end up going back.
It's open throughout the year
I know they rent pontoons and I think kayaks. You will have to call them.
Ronald, so dnr can't get their 75G they said they needed to complete campground.? Hmm, thought they would by now. So, it's a free for all with parking and such !?
No camping at this recreational area, one toilet, swimming, hiking, boat launch, etc.
It's a mixed bag of terrain, be cautious of coyotes
