Central Islip is the best from Hauppauge. More frequent trains than from Smithtown + don't have to transfer at Huntington. The only advantage of Smithtown LIRR is the parking which may be an issue at Central Islip depending upon the time of the day.

Do they have a working booth to purchase metro card

You can purchase your metro card from the automated kiosks but as part of your LIRR ticket. I will check if you can buy a regular metro card without a lirr ticket later tonight
