They're essentially holding my FERS retirement money hostage after I left civil service and provide no status when I ask. Incompetent government organization with lackluster employee's who wouldn't make it anywhere in the private sector outside of flipping burgers.

Great people, great mission.

Just had a great experience with OPM despite the horror stories I've been reading and hearing. I'm a federal government retiree enjoying a wonderful retirement. I had to change a bit of banking information with them as I receive direct deposit. Sent them an e-mail and rung them. Their website unfortunately had no indication on whether their field office was open in the wake of the entire covid mess. I was a bit anxious as I called...there's usually a waiting time and it does give you an option of pushing #7 to have them ring you back. I'd read and heard horror tales of OPM failing to get back to people for days on end and of people having to ring over and over again. But I had a pleasant surprise of having a helpful lady ring back within a half hour. And she helped me change the banking info over the phone, which was great! I also felt safe in that she verified my identity through a few simple questions. Also, she was able to verify that the OPM field offices had indeed re-opened for in-person assistance. So, yes, OPM is not a total nightmare.

I was about to do this. My husband passed Oct.15,2019 in a one car fatal crash on military property. OPM has been a nightmare. I got in touch with my local Congressional Representative for help. I also asked for a call for a supervisor finally got one which pushed my packet forward. I mean I told them I was coming to their office to live because if they didn’t do something I would have to sell my house. This organization is a mess. It needs to be fixed on the inside. Take workers you have split and have some work on retirees and the others on widows and widowers. Bug bug bug them until you annoy them and they grow tired of you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Open season, you mean? If so I believe this year is 11.11.2019 thru 12.9.2019. But always check with OPM on their official site to confirm. Here is my reference: https://www.opm.gov/healthcare-insurance/open-season
