One of the worst Social Security offices. They scream at you and laugh if you have any issues with your process. Security team definitely they do what they should but extremely rude. Customer service in this location 10/10/2022 terrible. Get away from that place.

Update: I came back with a 9 AM appointment. There were about 10 other people with appts at the exact same time as me given their unusual system. People with appointments were attended to first. I was in and out of the building in 15 minutes. Highly recommend making an appt - they can only be made for Tuesdays or Fridays. There were 20+ people lined up before opening at 9 am without appointments. The attendant was very nice, and the process was easy today, so upgrading my review. The experience between today and yesterday was like night and day! If you have time to sit around and shift chairs, go without an appt. If you want to be seen quick, get a 9 am appt. —— I’m baffled by the good reviews here and the fact that someone said they care about Covid and social distancing. Not true! They have you take a number. But rather than call out the numbers when it’s your turn, they have you sit in chairs which also function as a “line.” I noticed everyone was sitting directly side by side in the first 3 rows of chairs, while the back 3 rows were empty. Naturally I sat in the back to create some distance. The security officer then ordered me to sit up front with everyone else and explained that was the line. I’m not sure what the point of taking a number is then. So basically when an attendant is ready, the person in the first chair of the “line” goes up to the window then everyone else has to shift over 1 chair. What is this musical chairs??? Also, you have the option to drop off documents and leave but they won’t give you a receipt unless you wait in the musical chair line. The line was 20 people deep so I left and made an appointment, which was also done in an odd way. They had me just write down my info and pick a day and time. Any day and time. What if someone else picks the same time as me? They didn’t seem to care, there was no organization with the appointments. It was also hot and stuffy in there. Overall a super weird process.

The officers in front were very knowledgeable and professional. Plus they were so KIND!!!!! I could see that they love what they do. Made me another great impression of America.

I suggest you call SSA customer service number, they will provide you with the most appropriate and definite answers. When you call, please be patience with them when you call...Due to high volume of waiting calls, it takes a while before one get them on phone
Call them. It is really worth waiting on the phone to make an appointment because the wait if you don't is very long.
You stop by at the the SSA office, fill the appointment form.
I've moved. How do I change where my check goes
You definitely 'want' one, but that will not be soon enough. People in line today were told they could request an appointment for "some time in the future" instead of standing in line longer. They weren't told how long that would be. I went without an appointment today, and stood outside in the same spot for an hour, but 3 hours total before I spoke with someone, (that's another story.) Once you are inside it is not as bad because you have air conditioning, seating, and generally the people around you are friendly. You also get to stand up every few minutes to maneuver the maze of chairs. 💪 I was there for someone with a disability. There was no way anyone with significant health conditions or folks with children would be unfazed by standing for so long, in extreme heat. To then be shuffled around in a volleyball style maze. Anyone with health conditions of any kind, really, requires someone to stand in line for them, while they stay in the air conditioning. Just my 2 cents.
Just walk in. Offices open 9:00am - 4:00pm
You will need to contact t them to get corrected.
Call your local office or try the 1-800 number
They also have a drop box inside for documents. Limited amount of people allowed inside the building because of Covid practices. 10 minutes Maxum for inside appointments once you are given a number. You may want to request an appointment at some point. Requested appointments allow for more time.
Due to the office closures, it is more difficult to speak to someone as the call volume has increased because of the closures. You can also try the national customer service number for more information.
You should call then to book an appointment
Appointments are limited to certain categories that cannot be completed online or via phone or mail. First check to see if your action can be completed online at SSA.gov. If you cannot complete your action online, you can call the office and a representative will assist you over the phone, including scheduling an appointment, if needed.
Go to the local SSA office. At the gate ask the security officer about your problem or you can call the specific number for that office at the gate.
Hi David. You need to call the local office of the district you live in. Appointments are restricted to the district where you are currently residing. If you are unable to find the local number of the office then please visit them and the number should be pasted outside their main door.
They mean that you just can't walk in. You should call them to take an appointment.
Call the main Social security number and they will give you the correct number to call.
Yes, you need call at the office to make appointment.

Yes
Just call social security for an appointment and complete SS5 form, you can find it online.
You must go to their website find the phone number and call them. I'm afraid they'll be closed this week and maybe a couple more weeks
If you have the SSN and you are going for any update then you can make the online appointment. If you do not have SSN then you need to visit the office.
The wait for an appointment is approximately 7 weeks (unless you are filing for Disability, which is shorter). Check to see if you can complete your action online first at Social security.gov.
Yes, but make sure you understand the Special Enrollment Period (SEP) and premium surcharge rollback. In short, if you cancel your Part B, you can only re-enroll during an enrollment period and for every 12 months you do not have Part B, your premium can go up by 10%. However, if your employer provides health insurance, those months you are covered under your employer insurance do not count towards the 12 months. You also get a Special Enrollment Period where you can sign back up for Part B if your employer-provided insurance ends. See www.ssa.gov/pubs/EN-05-10043.pdf for more information.
You can mail it to the Rockville office.
If you are not making changes (just need a replacement) and have a driver's license or state ID, go to ssa.gov, create a mySocialSecurity account, and request a replacement SSN card. Otherwise, you need to complete a SS5 form and provide original (not a photocopy) driver's license, state ID or passport.
If you have a current valid Maryland driver's license or state ID and are not making any changes or corrections (e.g., name) you don't need to go in. Go to SSA.gov and request a replacement SS card behind the mySocialSecurity portal.

If there is no change in your SSN card and you have a valid MD driver's license or state ID, you can request a no change duplicate SSN card at SSA.gov. You will need to have/create a mySSA account first, but it is easy and well worth it.
You can make appointment online only if you already have your SSN, else you have to go there without appointment.

Yes, you can mail the completed form to the office for processing. No visit required.
Call them directly
Each tme you request a new social security card you show on the application the address to which you want it sent. Is the postal carrier forwarding hit for some reason? There are provisions where you can request that the card be sent directly to the Social Security office.
Call there toll free # to make an appointment. You can find this on their website
