I drove 15 miles so I could recycle my old 27" tube TV, always trying to do the right thing for the environment. I pulled up to the booth, showed my ID to prove that I'm a county resident, and asked where to recycle TVs. The attendant said that section was closed and I should just throw the TV into the trash dumpster. There were three cars behind me so I had no time to question the guy. I dumped my TV in the dumpster, disgruntled about this ridiculous turn of events. As I was passing the booth on the way out I stopped and asked the attendant why the electronics recycling station would be closed on a Monday. He said it's not the day, they just ran out of boxes. I called the office when I got home and was told the attendant should have asked me to just leave the TV at the recycling station, box or no box. She said she'd look into this "mix-up." In general, I love the whole idea of my county having this kind service. I hate paying taxes as much as the next guy but I love to see them put to good use... except for this one day. Alpha Ridge Landfill is an exceptionally well-organized, advanced, and efficient program of coping with the variety of trash and recyclables we need to manage and/or dispose of in today's world. Yesterday was my first visit, and I'm impressed! It's a see-it-to-believe-it place, and I know they have a drone tour of the landfill on their website -- well worth a look! But if you need to visit in person, seeing is believing. Seriously.

is it without fee?
I have used emery American Express to pay for mulch and compost at alpha ridge
I've never paid. If it's regular stuff from a home and a HOCO ID, it should be free. If you have commercial stuff, there will be a charge.
Yes they do, ther dumping area is behind the big red barn. 76/ton I think
I believe you can only do that on Household Hazardous Waste days. Every Saturday from April thru November (I think). First one of this year is Saturday, 4/2/22. (They do a few special ones over the winter, too.)
Yes if they are emptied
I would think so. You will have to go over to the scale building.
No, you need to be a Howard County resident. They will ask for your driver's license at the gate.
As far as I know Alpha Ridge has stop recycling styrofoam. It now goes into the regular household dump container there. Hazzardious waste is collected on Saturday. You can check with the folks there. Also go to their Web Site. It has all the information you need.
Yes. They have separate collection for electronics, including flat-screen TVs. I did show up once with an ancient console CRT (tube) and was directed to the dumpster. Analog gets no respect anymore.
Yeah, just show the ID with hoco address. They usually don't even check for ID
I do bulk trash removel and i usually have cds mixed in with the trash and they never say anything so they do take them
You cannot buy lumber from the landfill although you can buy mulch. Check out their website on howardcountymd.gov for more information.
Home Depot and Lowes sell a paint additive that causes it to solidify so you can trash it instead of driving to the landfill. If you have sawdust or other absorbent material you could probably do the same thing.
Yes. Every day they are open you can bring a trailer
There is s special drop-off point for electronics, TV's, etc
When you enter it your first right for unwanted cosmetics plastics houseware ect
Hours are Monday to Saturday 8 am to 4 pm
As long as you have proof of howard county residency you can.
Yes
Construction materials must be taken through the commercial entrance (to the left) to be weighed in. As long as you are a Howard County resident and not commercial (don't use a vehicle with any commercial logo) the fee will be small.
Why wouldn't you just drizzle it in your yard? It's not harmful or toxic, will safely biodegrade, and any interested animals will lap it up. This is what we do with our post-Thanksgiving deep fryer oil.
Yes, you will be weighed coming in and weighed going out. The fee is not bad for residents. Check their website for more information.
Closed on all government holidays
Yes they will tell when you come in.
All of that information is on the Howard County gov site. They basically take everything.
No it is not but due to the fact that it is a rental vehicle it must go get weighed in at the scales and checked out at the transfer station for any residential construction material
And you also can dump mattresses too
Furniture is free as long as you're a Howard resident.
Yes. No fee. AutoZone and Advanced Auto accept oil.
They take florescent bulbs at the toxic waste area. Not sure why filters would be anything other than household waste.
The only things that I know that you can take away from Alpha Ridge are topsoil, mulch and compost. All sold by the.cubic yard.
You can bring shingles any day Monday through Saturday
No fee for recycling electronics as long as you are a resident of Howard County.and in a non commercial vehicle
Yes but only Saturdays April through November.
Monday through Saturday 8am to 4 pm. No commercial Loads after 3:30 p.m.
They will not pick it up. If it works you can call bge and they will give you $50 to pick it up.
Yes, check Google for the hours. They're closed on Sundays.
