I normally would give the Main branch Mesa Public library an exceedingly great reviews, however, I had an incident which surprised me that they were not willing to help me work out at all. Im a middle aged woman, but took part, as well as my husband in the summer reading program that when you met certain amount of reading time goals, you were eligible to receive prizes along the way according to your age group. In our home, we have no access to electronics and my husband and I are both disabled m, my husband terminally ill with his disability. I asked the staff if they would help me create a paper log of our reading milestones and what books and how many minutes we spent reading. They told us that would be no problem and to cone in to the library and they would help me draft a reading log on paper for my husband and I. We're were looking forward to the prizes, one of which at the end of completing all the reading required, were tickets to a PHX Mercury game as well as being able to select a book of each of our choosing as a reward for completing the summer reading program. Well my husband fell very ill with Covid and I living and caring for him became ill as well. So needless to say we stayed home in quarantine and were monitored closely by our physicians and did not put the public in any harms way by being irresponsible and going into public, including the library. I called the library and told them of our situation and how we would not be able to come into the facility until we were cleared by our doctor to do so. Meanwhile the summer reading program came to an end, but we were assured because of the circumstances that they would still help us fill out manual reading logs and would be able to get our prizes as everyone else had and that was that. Well when I went in several days later a gentleman at the counter was very adamant the program was over and what I had been told on the phone was incorrect and there was nothing to be done. How dissapointed we were and shocked that a place like the library would not honor what they had so clearly told me. We were responsible in not bringing our COVID-19 illness to such a heavily trafficked area and were informed that we would in no way be left out of the program and all it had to offer. My Husband and I get out only for doctors appointments and to get what little food we can afford as it is on 800/ mo., that this hurt us deeply that were told one thing and treated quite badly because of our excitement to be well and get our prizes and pick out o new book to read. It just seemed to go against everything I've ever felt about the library and their helpful ways. I hope no one else receives this type of treatment, especially when the library, walkable distance, just treated our difficult situation as if we had any control over it. We go without so much as it is with our disabilities and my husbands nearing the end of his life that this whole experience was not a good one unlike all the other ones we have with our local MN branch of the Mesa Public Library system.

They are a good Library. However I have always been harrased by security here. Literally given 0 reasoning. They've attempted to kick me out without explaining things. I'm disabled. I have turned in my library books and they refuse to give me a replacement library card. It's $2.00 to replace. I've replaced with cash. I would really like to pay whatever fee I have left, but I need staff, especially security to stop being rude to me. I'm a human being but this library makes me feel like less.
