I’m really hesitant to leave anything less than 5 stars on a Church that appears to ultimately follow Jesus, but I do think it’s important to share my experience for general feedback. My first two visits were great - very friendly folks that invited me to a Wednesday night and/or exchanged numbers to join a Bible Study (I later found out was separate from the Church and was the only time I was actually invited and followed up with, haha). I signed up for Life Group as I wanted to get more involved. After it turned out that I couldn’t make any of the four scheduled times I mentioned this to the leaders but said I’d moved to Chicago and was really wanting to get connected/was feeling a bit isolated since the move, etc. I kept reaching out over a couple months to see how to actually meet people and not just come on Sundays, and I even reached out on IG multiple times and left a voicemail on the general church number and got either crickets or I was told: I’d love to meet with you! But there was never any practical attempt to reach out to set something up…and when I tried to practically coordinate time to meet, something on their end would always come up as to why they couldn’t. I understand there are different seasons we all go through, but if you’re not able to make time to respond to a new person’s multiple attempts over multiple months to get connected with at least advice on who to get connected with, and you’re a leader or point of contact, it makes me wonder if you should be leading at the current time. This all made the initial friendliness I was shown feel empty. The Church at large - when they had a guest speaker I knew and trusted, I had high hopes, but at times it feels like the message is a bit more on the self-help side of things and not as much on the Kingdom... I’m really trying to guard my words, so I’ll just take the rest to prayer :). I truly hope the Lord uses (and continues) to use this Church, and I’m going to choose to believe my experience was more of an isolated incident because it’s not the Church home God has for me in Chicago, and not because it’s reflective of the character of the church at large.

Unfortunately, this just seems like another compromised business called Church. Oddly, the pastor seems to memorize his messages. And if you are not conformed to their Christian pop-culture, there are odd ppl here who are threatened by you if you are different and confident, which looks just like the rest of the world. Most of the others were downcasted avoidant characters because of this weird hierarchy; we are not supposed to be insecure and defeated. If Jesus was acknowledged in church shouldn't we see Christians mentally and emotionally healed? Wasn't that His whole point?! I've been noticing church culture has def lost the fact that Jesus is about relationship and the heart. I had never heard a message on Jesus' love during the many services I attended. But I'm hopeful that one day Christians will stop seeking man's approval and truly know His Love for us. We need to know we belong to a Kingdom, then we can truly love others as He commanded. Shouldn't Christians stand up for what's right even if it's not popular? That is why it is called the Narrow Path.

My wife and I attended 9:00a Sunday service today; very friendly people and a wonderful message. We heard the city council approved a casino to be built across the street. Don’t underestimate God’s plan in all of this: the casino may or may not be built but either way, God’s plan will prevail. The City Church has a unique opportunity to be Christ’s Light and Love to the casino’s community.
