I Biked up the hill to the Julian Dubuque Monument in The Mines of Spain State Recreational Area. Lots of trails to follow with mileage info, Beautiful views of the Mississippi River. Enjoyed seeing the Resting place of the Towns Founder, Nice mini like Castle. I plan to come back and enjoy some of the walking trails & to kayak on The Catfish Creek.

The view here is wonderful! We parked at the top and it was a short walk to the monument. The view of the Mississippi River is incredible!

There are some really great views of the Mississippi from here. You can park at the lower parking area and walk up (20-30 mins with stops) OR you can park at the upper area and have a very short walk of only about a few minutes. If you park at the upper area I *believe* it is an accessible path to the tower and lookout. There is a picnic area off to the side. You'll of course see incredible views of the Mississippi. There are a couple of those things you can look through that are free of charge. This is definitely a worthwhile stop.

As a place listed on the National Register of Historic places, we dropped by when we crossed the Mississippi to Iowa. We visited the monument where lies resting place of the city’s earliest settler. The overlook was the most beautiful sight, very serene! It wasn’t very crowded and it was interesting to read the history behind the place!

Hike nature trails and enjoy scenic lookouts over the Mississippi River. There are several creek access areas for small kayaks with maps to show the area. There are several areas with picnic tables and grills for picnics. If nothing else, it's a pretty area to cruise through and enjoy.
