Excellent service you can TRUST!!! The first thing you see when you walk in are tons of awards and plaques. This speaks volumes for the kind of service you will receive. The night drop off was a major selling point for me, and that's what initially brought me there, but the service is what kept me coming back! They are EXTREMELY THOROUGH!!! They will inspect your car from top to bottom, while being honest about what repairs can wait and which ones need immediate attention. They have even caught some things that other mechanic shops did not!!!! They have an awesome newsletter that comes in the mail which is a lot of fun too! As long as I live in the DFW area, I will be a loyal customer!

I brought my car in for an inspection and an oil change. Dustin and his team took great care of my car. They recommended brake work which I agreed upon. Like other reviewers have said, it’s certainly not the cheapest place, but the work they did and their customer service made it worth it! There was one thing on the bill they didn’t “clear” by me before doing and they took it off no questions asked. I would definitely recommend them and will be taking all three of our cars here.

Best experience I have had with an auto repair shop. John is so kind and helpful - he took the time to explain everything thoroughly and had a lot of great advice for a hard situation. 10/10 would recommend The Auto Shop!

Questions & Answers

How long does a battery last in a car?

Kris OConnor | Oct 11, 2021
Jerry Kezhaya | Oct 11, 2021

Here in Texas a car battery will last 3-4 years. Very high and low temperatures can cause batteries to fail sooner, often giving out without notice. Frequency of starting, such as "auto-start" (where the vehicle shuts of when it comes to a stop and then starts when you take your foot off the brake) will also affect its longevity. Proper maintenance of the battery terminals, from corrosion, can also affect the life of the battery. Hope this helps! Jerry from The Auto Shop

Can you please tell me what thickness brake pads and rotors should be before they get replaced?

Dr Laura Shwaluk | Oct 12, 2019
Jerry Kezhaya | Oct 11, 2021

Typically 3mm or less is when brake pads should be replaced. All rotors have a minimum dimension stamped on the rotor itself (if not, we can look it up for you). That dimension is the thickness of the rotor AFTER machining if you are going to have them resurfaced. Please give us a call to provide you with a free brake inspection.

Can you tell me what the noise in my car is?

Kris OConnor | Oct 11, 2021
Kris OConnor | Oct 11, 2021

Not without seeing it or hearing it. Dr. Laura had a phone call a few days ago and the guy calls up and he says hey my kid has a noise in their car uh any idea what it could be? Questions to ask: What kind of noise is it? Where is the noise, is it in the car, is it in the engine compartment, is it coming from the trunk? We try to help as best as we can however more than likely it is Not related to “guesswork” over the phone. As good as a certified mechanic can be until the car or truck is brought in there is no accurate way to tell you what the true problem or repair will be. As good as we are, as much as we have learned over the years of working here at The Auto Shop it is still very difficult to diagnose what's going on with the vehicle over the phone. The best thing really is to bring it in now even if someone has told you oh it must be the alternator.

Can I switch my car to synthetic oil?

Kris OConnor | Oct 11, 2021
Kris OConnor | Oct 11, 2021

That's bad! Don't do that and here are a few reasons why. Synthetic oil was made for jet engines in the beginning. Synthetic oil needs to be high temperature and hot right now. The problem with natural oil is that it "Coke-up" not like Coca-Cola. A real example of this is bottom of frying pans, cookie sheets that you can't scrub off. Older vehicles engines don't run hot enough to require synthetic oil. The thing most don't talk about is the oil filter. Oil filters ae ALL paper. If the oil filter plugs up, (there is a rubber valve at the top (bottom) of the filter), the oil bypasses the oil filter. So now your engine is running without any oil that does not have any filtration.

Why does it take so long to fix my car?

Kris OConnor | Oct 11, 2021
Kris OConnor | Oct 11, 2021

There are 3 major reasons why it takes so long to fix a car. 1. Look at the engine compartment. In it you will see everything inside it is very compact. It does take a long time to get to some parts because the parts surrounding it may need to be removed to get to the repair. 2. Parts are not generic meaning that one part does Not work in each manufacturers car or truck. When the right part is found by a SKU number, it may need to be shipped in from another state. 3. Shortage of Outstanding ASE Mechanics. The average age is 59 yrs old. Collin College has recently opened a trades school to help rebuild the trades industry.
