Papago Park is a desert scenery there is snakes scorpions and other Little Critters so you need to take the same care as you would if you were hiking in the desert seldom is any snakes seen in the picnic areas or along the water areas it's a great place for children to fish along with adults if 15 or older you do need a fishing permit my children are in their 30s I would take them all the time along with my grandchildren now and we've seen no snakes or scorpions but I guarantee you there out there

There are three sides of Papago Park. The south west side where most people go hike. The north west where there are baseball/softball and the south east between the zoo and botanical garden.
The Hole in the Rock is in the South East side of Galvin and McDowell rd. Buried in the far east side. Although I can't recall seeing any play ground there.
Although Supai Middle School is across the canal and they have play grounds but I'm not sure if they are open to the public. I think it is a circuitous route also as the canal blocks cross traffic so it is buried in the middle of the neighborhood. Hope that helps.
