I made a full recovery after spending several months in residential at the Renfrew Center in PA in 2017. I met some lifelong friends as well. The reason I gave it 4 stars is because I didn’t care for very many of the staff. The nurses were extremely rude at times. It felt like the patients were unsupervised most of the time.

At first I loved it. The other patients were so kind and helpful. I liked my therapist and group leaders. But, I kept getting accused of talking poorly about the food and other patients. Never happened! When I was brand new I did say that I was full after dinner. I also mentioned that the broccoli was way to salty! My whole table said it! But I learned that you can't say that. There were two VERY strict counselor's and I swear they had it in for me! I was asked to leave! They were also reprimanding me that after twelve days, I only had one or two 100%. REALLY? Twelve days? Will not recommend unless you can't talk out loud about anything!!

I had an excellent experience of healing from my Anorexia and Bulimia here in 1997 over 3 weeks. I made so many close friends, and was given top-notch medical care, and went into remission from my eating disorders for a few months because of my treatment at Renfrew. I must admit the psychiatry sessions were inadequate, there should not have been fashion magazines around us in the Mealtime Support Therapy Room, and, after having seen the YouTube video on the website on here, I am extremely alarmed that patients are allowed to watch TV! That is very dangerous to all eating disorders sufferers! When I was a patient, none of us had access to a TV so we wouldn’t be triggered. Our leisure time consisted of visiting with our loved ones each early evening, and, otherwise, we’d go up to the second floor living room in the residential building all together to color, play puzzles, and do other artwork, or play Candyland. Please, if a staff member is reading this, get rid of the TV’s!!! Also, I can’t stress enough that, as I saw—to my horror—in the documentary, “Thin”, which was about the very substandard Florida Renfrew Center, if you really want to get better, DO NOT GO TO FLORIDA RENFREW! There’s only one real Renfrew—Philadelphia. Otherwise, I hope to start coming again to Friday night Friends & Family Support Group at Philadelphia Renfrew ASAP, especially since my 78 year-old mom now has Anorexia nervosa and Orthorexia. She is doing this as a slow form of suicide, which I will not allow. If you’re female and even suspect you have any eating disorder, check into Renfrew Philadelphia ASAP! Even if you have to pay out of pocket. This treatment is really that good!
