Had very pleasant and quick service at SSA office on Markley Street in Norristown. Was expecting to wait much longer. The SSA officer was very knowledgeable and knew right away what needs to be done.

You need to call them to make an in-person appointment. After providing your information and phone number, remember to ask for a fax number that you can fax your paperwork in. Then they'll call you back within 1-3 days to schedule an appointment with you.

You need to get the birth certificate first. Go to the city hall of the city you were born or if from a different country go to the consulate. Then you can get the SS card.
