It's the largest Asian grocery store in the Charleston area (maybe even all of low country?) so it's great by default! Honestly it's about perspective: If you're from larger urban areas it's going to feel inadequate and dingy. If you're from some more rural areas then this place is akin to an oasis in a desert and pilgrimages to this location are required to maintain your sanity. Philosophical thoughts aside, it's got a good selection of products and plenty of parking. Lots of produce, appliances, and even a decent restaurant inside as well! Even though its only competition is the 'International' section of Walmart the store offers quite a lot for a decent price!

Crazy large Asian Supermarket - akin to being in Chinatown! If you need it, they probably have it from fresh produce, groceries, frozen, supplies, fresh meat and seafood. The market actually had that great, fresh, appropriate smell of the beach. As a former seafood manager of a multinational Supermarket chain - I do appreciate that! Plenty of well stored boxes for carrying home purchases at great prices. Lotsa parking by the door.

Absolute horrible service! Went to have lunch in the restaurant side and sat for well over 30 mins and never received my food. I watched everyone in there that was seated after me receive their food while my daughter and I just sat there waiting. One table ordered exactly what we did and received their food 5 mins after they sat down. After everyone in the dining area received their food, I confronted the waitress and she all of a sudden acted like she couldn’t understand what I was saying. This was highly disappointing as my daughter and I have been looking forward to trying this dish from here.

H&L is a great local Asian grocery store that's the largest in the Charleston area. It has variety and a huge selection of products imported directly from South and Southeast Asia, including fresh produce, frozen goods, meats, and fish. I've seen food from China, Japan, Korea, Thailand, Indonesia, Vietnam, the Philippians, Taiwan, and Malaysia here, and they even have a small section dedicated to Mexican goods as well. Aside from food, they have an extensive section dedicated to appliances (rice cookers, hot plates) and a lot of porcelain vases, statues, and other decorations. They have a lot of products for the kitchen too, such as soup spoons, chopsticks, forks, napkins, plates, etc. I'd say the only place they're lacking is alcohol. They used to have a decent selection, but these days they only have some Chinese and Japanese beers, and a couple of brands of sake. The location isn't great, though I don't hold that against them. The store is an old Bi-Lo and you can tell, the old artwork on the walls and even the aisle signs are still the same. There is a great restaurant inside called Pho #1. It's a genuinely great Vietnamese place, and I love going to eat there when I'm done shopping. They also have a small kiosk off to the side that offers phone repairs, but I've never used it before. Overall, this is a great Asian grocer that offers a lot. It's got the biggest selection of any Asian grocery store in the Lowcountry (perhaps all of South Carolina), it's not too expensive, and there's a great restaurant attached to it.
