Normally humidity level is adjusted based on the outdoor temperature, normally we would recommend keeping your humidistat at 25%-35% humidity.

Will there be any damage to my ducts after the cleaning?

Duct Professor Heating & Cooling | Mar 14, 2022
Duct Professor Heating & Cooling | Mar 14, 2022

No, there won't be any damage to the ducts, in fact, the procedure will prevent damages to your entire system making it less likely to overheat, increasing airflow, and preventing any build-up of dust on the furnace blower.

How often should I have my unit serviced?

Duct Professor Heating & Cooling | Mar 14, 2022
Duct Professor Heating & Cooling | Mar 14, 2022

Heating and cooling units need to have regularly scheduled tune-ups to make sure everything is operating properly. Normally we would advise scheduling twice a year, one for the Winter season and one for the Summer season.

How long should it take to clean a residential HVAC system?

Duct Professor Heating & Cooling | Mar 14, 2022
Duct Professor Heating & Cooling | Mar 14, 2022

There are several factors that could affect the time needed to clean a residential HVAC system. These factors include the type of home, accessibility of the ductwork, number of systems, and amount of ductwork circulating the air in your home. Average size homes do require 3 to 4 hours for two technicians. *Our technicians will stay as long as necessary to thoroughly clean the entire system(s).*

How often should I clean my ducts?

Duct Professor Heating & Cooling | Mar 14, 2022
Duct Professor Heating & Cooling | Mar 14, 2022

Normally we would recommend having your ducts cleaned every 3-5 years depending on the size of your home and how often you replace filters. A good sign that indicates that ducts need to be cleaned are dust bunnies on your filter, or if you have a large build-up of dust next to your filter compartment.

Will my energy bill decrease after duct cleaning?

Duct Professor Heating & Cooling | Mar 14, 2022
Duct Professor Heating & Cooling | Mar 14, 2022

Clean ducts mean your HVAC system has better airflow, therefore the system doesn't need to work as hard to keep your temperature comfortable, which means less energy is needed.

My furnace is not working. Is there anything I should check before calling for a service call?

Duct Professor Heating & Cooling | Mar 14, 2022
Duct Professor Heating & Cooling | Oct 10, 2021

There are a few things that you can check. Is the furnace plugged in? Check the breaker box and also the thermostat settings.

Should I wait till the fall/winter to change my furnace since I will be using my air conditioner in the upcoming Summer?

Duct Professor Heating & Cooling | Mar 14, 2022
Duct Professor Heating & Cooling | Oct 10, 2021

Did you know that your furnace is still in use in the summer? The air conditioner uses the furnace's motor to circulate the cold air in your home. If your furnace needs to be replaced then you should replace it asap as it is in use throughout the whole year!

What can I do to make my AC run more efficiently?

Duct Professor Heating & Cooling | Mar 14, 2022
Duct Professor Heating & Cooling | Oct 10, 2021

The first recommendation would be to do an AC tune-up, which is commonly referred to as air conditioner maintenance. During this process will clean and check the functionality of your ac. This should increase the efficiency of the ac. One issue that you may have is that your air conditioner is undersized for the amount of home it is cooling. If the unit is undersized it is using more energy as it is constantly running to keep your home at the desired temperature. This is something that can be looked at and evaluated by the professionals at Duct Professor. Another issue is that your ac may be old and needs to be replaced. Normal wear and tear are unavoidable and it might make sense to change your unit out for a more energy-efficient one.

What is a tankless water heater? What are the benefits of a tankless water heater? Is it better than a regular water heater with the big tank?

Duct Professor Heating & Cooling | Oct 10, 2021
Duct Professor Heating & Cooling | Oct 10, 2021

A tankless water heater avoids the big bulky tank and delivers hot water on demand. In a standard water heater with a tank your water is heated and stored in the tank to use when you need it. If you use the warm water quickly you will have to wait for the water heater to heat up some more water for you. With a tankless water heater no warm water is stored, instead the tankless water heater heats up the water on demand. So you will never run out of warm water. That is the main benefit of the tankless water heater. The tankless water heater is also more energy efficient as it only turns on when you need it. The tankless water heater also saves space since the equipment is less bulky. Since the tankless water heater is not working constantly, the equipment lasts longer, up to 25 years. Tankless is overall a better product than a standard water heater, the price is higher but since the tankless water heater will last for 2.5x times the standard water heater, it ends up being more cost effective in the long run.

How to tell if your air duct needs to be cleaned?

Duct Professor Heating & Cooling | Oct 10, 2021
Duct Professor Heating & Cooling | Oct 10, 2021

Good question, there are a few things you can look for to know if your duct system needs to be cleaned. 1. Recent renovation: If you have recently renovated your premises, you need to clean your air ducts especially if you had harmful materials like asbestos or huge amounts of dust and debris lead in the building. 2. Sudden respiratory problems and allergies: Sudden allergies or respiratory problems may indicate poor air quality circulating in your premises. In such a case you may need to clean your air ducts if other interventions like decontaminating your premises fail to work. 3. Animal infestation: Animals like insects and rodents can sometimes live in your ducts. These animals may not only damage your HVAC system but also leave waste leading to bad odors. The animals’ fur may also find its way into your rooms and may trigger illnesses. If you have evidence of an animal infestation, you should have them removed and your air ducts cleaned. And many more, so it's VERY important to have your duct system to be cleaned at least every 2-3 years.

Yes, they work. The electronically charged filter attracts smaller particles like bacteria and mold and stops them from recirculating around your home. We offer a large variety. Give us a call for more details.

My furnace is not working the way it used to should I repair it or replace it?

Duct Professor Heating & Cooling | Oct 10, 2021
Duct Professor Heating & Cooling | Oct 10, 2021

Good Question! The right answer is, "it depends." Most furnaces come with a 10-year warranty. If you are still in this warranty period it would make sense to repair it, as the parts will be covered by warranty. It could last you another couple of years with the necessary repairs in place. However, if your furnace is on its last legs it might not make sense to invest in a sinking ship. I would recommend a Free Inspection so that Duct Professor Inc. can help you lay out all the cards on the table. Information is everything in a situation like this.

What are the benefits of a whole home humidifier?

Duct Professor Heating & Cooling | Oct 10, 2021
Duct Professor Heating & Cooling | Oct 10, 2021

The hot air that is created and distributed by your furnace is dry and needs moisture. The whole-home humidifier's job is to provide this moisture to the air that it distributes. There are a lot of benefits to having a whole-home humidifier. Most importantly it is beneficial to your health. A whole-home humidifier helps with dry skin, itchy/dry throat, sinuses, snoring, and allergy symptoms. Dry air is also a danger to wooden floors, door frames, and window frames which tend to become brittle and crack when they dry out. Maintaining a proper level of humidity is keeps everyone and everything in your home healthy.
