I got my very first dog 5 years ago on Black Friday at Woods and she has been the best dog experience I could've imagined
Michael Overfield
So nice and so helpful!! Thank you so much for helping us take home the perfect dog!
Chris Tillison

Yes they are, you need to read their website. No shelter is completely no kill.. Animal Services will take the animal back or in to help with humane euthanasia.
Keep checking on their website until they put the animal on it.
Hi Marie, an animal would only be evaluated for euthanasia based on severe/terminal medical or severe behavior issues. Time (length of stay) at our shelters or space in our kennels is NEVER an issue. However, every animal in our care is an individual so evaluations are all on a case by case basis. Regardless the decision is never taken lightly and is made by a committee after all available resources are exhausted.
Woods typically only has dogs and cats unless there are other animals available from the summer Critter Camp Program (rabbits, guinea pigs, rats, lizards, etc). If you are looking for rabbits, you can check out SLO County Animal Services or SLOBUNS rabbit rescue websites
It is best, if you live locally, to visit Woods. They have a location in San Luis as well as Santa Maria. You will have a chance to meet the dogs and play with them. If you currently have a dog, dont forget to take him/her with you if you find a dog you like. Remember, it will be part of their pack and they have to say yes or no also. Happy looking. I enjoy just going.
Don't think so. That's done by certain vets but call and ask.
If you adopt from them they neuter for free plus chip them and current on all shots. I've been there multiple times.
Woods is unable to offer temporary boarding for owned pets. There are several reputable boarding kennels in our area that may be able to help.
Call Woods Humane Society and SLO Animal Services.
Yes
I believe it's 12-4.
At this time we are not hosting vaccine clinics for the public at our shelters,, however give us a call and our staff will be happy to provide you with some options.
You can view our adoption fees here: https://www.woodshumanesociety.org/adopt/adoption-fees.php
Hi there! Our volunteer opportunities start at 18 years-old but we have plenty of ways for youth to serve via our Humane Education programs! Please head over to our website to learn more!
Most definitely, all of the animals I have gotten from places like this have been a great help to me. I have depression and PTSD. Good luck!
You can set up a notification to receive alerts when a they have a dog available of a specific breed, otherwise the did that are available for adoption are what is on the website
Open daily from 12PM to 6PM with adoptions ending at 5PM.
Im sorry I do not know the answer to your question...you will have to call Woods and ask one of their staff...good luck...😊
Hi there, no we only have dogs and cats at our facility. San Luis Obispo County Animal Services (located next door to us in San Luis Obispo) handles other species of animals.
It depends on the cat, a waiver can be medical or behavior related. Contact the shelter directly for more details.
Have never known one to be there for adoption. Most pets are owner surrendered and/or picked up strays.
You can go to adoptapet.com and put in whatever breed you are looking for as well as setting up notifications for when a new animal goes up for adoption within the geographic range you set up. However, the wait can take a while since Maltese puppies are not a common breed necessarily. In this case, you might want to consider going to a reputable breeder.
Hi Ian, we do not take in "stray" cats, this would be a situation where you would need to bring the animal to SLO County Animal Services...unless you claim ownership of the animal for 30 days then you can give us a call to surrender.
Dogs for adoption 9ners
Their open hours are 12pm-6pm i believe. But thats for adopting. You need to go on their web page fill in a form and make an appointment to surrender an animal. Dog or cat. It is worth the time it takes. They are awesome!
Hi Katherine, thanks for your question. The animal welfare industry as a whole is trying to move away from using the term "No Kill" as it creates an environment where some organizations are pigeonholed into the opposite or "Kill" category. The term is also misleading as there is no way to guarantee an animal will not pass while in an organization's care. As you can imagine, this type of terminology can be detrimental to the dedication and hard work that folks who work in animal welfare exhibit every day. Time & space are never an issue for animals in our care at Woods and we are celebrating a 98% Live Release Rate for the past year. Please take a moment to check out our annual statistics at https://www.woodshumanesociety.org/about-woods/our-990.php and feel free to reach out if you have any additional questions.
A few times a year they waive fees on some dogs and cats and/or lower them temporarily. Call the shelter and talk to a friendly worker who could answer your question directly.
Yes, you can surrender a cat to Woods if you are moving and can't take them along with you. Check out http://www.woodshumanesociety.org/shelter-services/surrenders.php for information.
You can go to this website to select the job you'd like to apply for: http://www.woodshumanesociety.org/about-woods/employment-opportunities.php At the end of each position, there's a link to download the application, the job description and submit the application/resume.
Check out the new spayslocounty.org for information on our low cost clinics
Definitely food, towels, blankets, and they have a wish list.
Woods rehomes owner surrenders by appointment only. They do not accept walk on surrenders or strays. Any stray/found animals must legally be taken to the SLO County Shelter. You can find a surrender request from for any of your own animals on their website to schedule an appointment with them. It is a $35 surrender fee for in county residents.
They do not charge.
You may be confusing Woods for the county animal services next door, who does close at 4pm on some days.
The number listed. It took a coupke if days for them to answer a call i had made to them. They open at noon, clise around 5pm.
That is a question to ask your veterinarian
There is a fee to surrender a pet but they are a no kill shelter
I think it's $85 for kittens and $65 for adult cats.
I have never done it through woods, however all their animals get it done to them. They do offer it at a competitive price I believe.
You ask to apply for a job at the society.
Nipomo Cat and Dog clinic will do it for $20
Call the shelter.
Sometimes Wood's holds clinics and Lemos Pet Supply often has a clinic like every 4-6 weeks.
I would head down in person with a resume, but as far as I know they only have volunteer positions right now.
Yes of course.
I have not seen any besides cats and dogs at Woods, but next door at the animal shelter there are birds and other animals
