Buddhist monks(Bhikkhus) cannot ask for what they need or require directly and to find out indirectly is considered shameful as the followers of the "path" should know. Even when it is "donated" money they are vowed to not touch it or even count it and have to trust people to buy what they need with it. It is ok to ask the abbot what should be donated and when it is traditional to do so.

On Sundays between 10 am and 11 am. Any time after the feeding of the monks.
The monk eats at 11 and does a Dharma talk afterwards daily if someone is there.
10am lunch followed by service everyday. The monks recommend Sundays as this is when the most people tend to come.
