Great customer service. 1 employee at the front desk with lots to do. Just be patient. Adopted 2 black kittens, Shadow & Sweet Pea. Love both of them, only 4 months old.

Had the pleasure of interacting with them through their cause for paws event. It was a great event and I hope it helped a lot the animals they have in their shelter! The reason for 4 stars is because one of the other volunteers (she could have been employed with the shelter, I’m not sure) was handling one of the adoptable dogs that had been brought out totally wrong. He was choking himself out with his martingale collar, and when I tried to approach her about making his leash into a harness she insisted that a harness wouldn’t do anything for him and that he just needed training. She wasn’t rude or anything but a harness would very well have helped him and would have protected his neck/trachea from the tightening of the martingale collar that wasn’t doing anything.

I did some volunteer work and felt very accomplished afterwards. They need all the help they can get and the staff are wonderful.

Yes and you can find a list of requested items on our website, or every Wednesday we post a wish list on our Facebook page.
At times, yes.
Portsmouth animal shelter has adoption events often, sometimes with greatly reduced fees. Best thing is to check their web site or Facebook page
Application is on their web site.... Im fostering a crazy little kitten right now
How many dogs do you have?
Surrenders are taken by appointment only. There is a $50 surrender fee that goes towards the care of the animal. U can call and make and appointment
Their website has all the details needed for adopting, including cost.
Yes
I have one
Yes but have you tried to find him a loving family yourself?
None on Wednesday this week but doesn't hurt to give them a call.
Is the toy poodle a girl oops Angel a girl is she fixed and how many pounds
You go girl, volunters are what makes the humane society so successful.
I didn't see any last time I was there, but you never know what they may have from time to time, best thing to do is visit or call them to see what they do have or expect to get in the future.
They neuter animals that you get from them,I am not sure if they do others, but PETA does it for free at there mobile unit for free just make a donation.
Depends on your City.
I belive so, but it's always a good idea to call and ask them directly.
The Humane society takes Donated cages, blankets, food. You can drop the item off during business hours.
If you foster an animal and that animal doesn't work out then you can try another animal. But you cannot surrender an animal and adopt another.
Call the shelter
Our kittens are 2 for $86 with their spay/neuter, vaccinations and microchip
Yes you can! Surrender fee is 50 dollars
Puppies (under 6 months) are $200. This includes spay/neuter, microchip, and all core vaccinations. We do have puppies occasionally, but they tend to get adopted quickly. We do not have any right now.
tODAY IS CLEAR THE SHELTERS AND ALL ADOPTIONS ARE FREE
Although David is correct about looking on our website, you do not need an appointment to do a dog to dog introduction.
No they dont do that .. call Peta and ask about getting shots and fixed. If its a pit bull its free but you will have to oay for shots. You can take your pet to Peta by apoointment and the will help u.. city license you have to go downtown and register
They were trying to get a program together. I would call and see. If not they may have better resources
They have a volunteer program, but not community service.
They only take grain free or science diet. They will take any wet food, but it MUST be unopened for them to accept it.
No they do not, I believe animal control can help you with that.
Also look up the PETA SNIP program. They have very reasonable rates and do it all over our area including the Humane Society
Never mind...We found her UNDER our neighbor's house. She somehow squeezed herself through a hole and couldn't get back out...
Hello, my name is Jessica and I am the Front Office Coordinator at the Portsmouth Humane Society. We do not euthanize for time or space. We euthanize for severe aggression in which they are a danger to people or other animals or if they have a terminal illness or injury and are suffering.
The shelter does not do shots
Adult female dog
Call Peta.. they take donations. I stayed with my girl and they were kind to her and me. No ashes .. the other cost 150. Up..
Call Peta, let them know that you need assistance and can't afford to get your pet spayed or nuetered. They have a SNIP van and will help you.
I think you can call PHS and give them information about an abandoned pet and they will send animal control to get him. I hope he is ok. Will never understand leaving a pet behind to fend for themselves.
I don't think they do that, PETA does it in Norfolk .
I don't think there is a deadline. Assume they always need them. I am registered as a volunteer but don't spend a lot of time there. I think they use the bags for clean up and that would mean they always need them.
