Excellent place for a fun day out and a bit of BBQ

Beautiful! Clear water, quiet, & a nice trail to get to the water. We found a solid rock that was a neat 'beach' to sit on. Great bathroom & parking. There was also a park office/museum building. There is also boat access from some other area.

Fresh water crabs? Don't know anyone that catches them here.

Is this a good place to park and kayak? Any restriction on boating in this area? How accessible is the path from parking to launching a kayak?

It's easy peasy. You'll be able to get down to the water no problem. As for restrictions I'm not sure i went to fish. As for what I remember I didn't see any signs.
