I recently adopted a kitten from Avery Humane Society. They were very helpful and made the adoption process quick and easy. I am so happy with my new playful and loving kitten. Thank you Avery Humane Society!

We adopted Belle, an Aussie mix, from Avery humane a month ago. Our visit was wonderful. They had a clean shelter, nice employees, and well cared for animals. We will never regret going for Belle.

I have to say this is the friendliest most professorial and cleanest humane society we have seen around western NC or at least in a 50 mile radius, My wife and I purchased a home here in Newland one year ago and now decided it was time to add a kitten to the mix. So we checked out Avery Humane Society and so glad we did my wife fell in love quickly with Puffin a small back kitty. And it was a very easy and quick application process. And the price was very reasonable for all of the care and all the extras . Thank you very much, Ben/April

Actually, they are a low kill shelter meaning if the animal is healthy and adoptable it will remain in the shelter until it is adopted. They only euthanize for health and behavior issues.

Looking for a bird to adopt

What kind of bird?

So a person gives $200 refundable deposit to spay/neuter kittens within a specific time with the vet they recommend. However vet won't do it until kittens are a certain weight. Time period passes, vet won't do it, lose deposit? That's total B.S.

No sir, actually at the time of the adoption we go over the s/n policy which states: "If your vet refuses to fix the animal until a certain age (our clinic uses the latest technology and performs S/N as early as 8 weeks of age), then you will be required to return on a date of choosing regardless of any of circumstances such as but not limited to distance to travel, personal Vet advice, or any other inconvenience or hardship." This is signed and agreed upon before application approval. The surgery is done at no further cost to the adopter and the deposit is refunded in full. Thank you

I have 2 grandchildren 12 and 13 who would like to volunteer at the shelter for a school project in civics. I would accompany them. They have to do a volunteer project for a citizenship participation grade. Is this something they could do.

Yes, you would just need to fill out a volunteer application. You can get one at the lobby desk. Thank you

Do they accept checks for payment?

We only accept cash or card for adoption or reclaims. Check is accepted for spay/neuter clinics or items from our boutique. Thank you

I'm sorry. We do not have a vet on staff. We can get shots done for you during our Low Cost Spay/Neuter Clinic. We are not permitted to do any procedure on a public animal.
