Stone mountain has been a go-to course whenever I have visitors come into Atlanta to play some golf. Ive noticed a recent hike in price but was rest-assured that this is due to a “new-management” take-over with an ambition to improve the quality of the course. Unfortunately, this was completely not the case - it seems like the new owners are simply aiming to jack up the price to hedge their potentially expensive acquisition. 1. Their score cards are now based on a plain paper where prints are barely visible and can be washed away with rain - this seems to be a cost saving effort. 2. Greens have many dead spots and divots are not taken care of 3. Bunkers/sand are not maintained and there are many puddles of water all around 4. Rangers or the marshals are not proactively keeping the round pace. I was behind two consecutive groups of boys who were playing scramble (looked to be with one too many beer and drinks) and they were delaying the whole group as they played with at least 3 balls each - even waiting for one another. My guests were obviously impressed by the view of majestic stone mountain, but were extremely disappointed with management of both courses and the pace I will need to give a second thought bringing my guests to this course moving forward Especially not for $90+ per person (& FYI they charge you $60 for club rentals. Yes you read that correctly SIX-ZERO - this should be a reasonable price for green fee)

Beautiful and private view of the mountain from the golf club! It’s also very close to the park entrance so you can pull over pretty soon after getting there to see the view. You can even see the cable cars going up the mountain here.

I played this course many years ago. It was always impeccable. Having said that, let me address some of the bad reviews. I manage an 18 hole golf course up in Southern Illinois. We have bentgrass greens also. The weather we have experienced this spring and summer has proven to be a monumental task to all golf course superintendents. We have lost turf on some of our greens as well. We are taking appropriate measures to rectify these problems i.e. coring, seeding, fertilizing etc. This has been a terrible weather-related season in the Midwest as well as the South These situations are out of our control, until mother nature starts cooperating. And yes I can assure you the courses and supers are well aware of the conditions. We see it everyday.

I was impressed with the clubhouse, bar area, and super friendly and helpful staff. The fairways, layout, and tee boxers are in great shape. The bunkers are pretty nasty but due to the rain the last few days we didn't think too much of it. THE GREENS: The greens are in the worst condition that I have ever seen on any golf course in my life. The greens looked like cheap carpet that was chewed on by a rabid dog. It made the course completely unplayable and unenjoyable. I can't describe to you how bad these greens are and I wish I had taken a picture. If the round was $10 with free parking it would have made more sense. Also, remember that you will have to pay for Stone Mountain parking ($20-$40).
