After many years of being a stay-at-home Mother, I decided to return back to school and receive my degree in Social Work. With much support from my family, I was able to receive my Masters in Social Work. As part of my Master’s program, I was required to work as an intern at an accredited agency. I had the privilege to work as an intern at VCS. During my time as an intern, I worked with two populations. I worked with the Elder population as well as in the FINS (children and adolescents) program. I completed my time as an intern and after several months later was hired as a Clinician/ Intake coordinator. I began my time working in the office, but then we were hit with the pandemic. I was nervous about returning to the office and I was graciously allowed to work remotely. Having the ability to work from home during such a difficult time was such a gift. I was supported and encouraged to work in which every way I felt comfortable. Working at VCS has been a wonderful time of growth as a Social Worker, both personally and professionally. I have watched first-hand how this amazing career helped change lives through the hard work and dedication that my colleagues have provided. Even more, I have never worked in an environment where not only do the clients matter, but the staff (including interns) matter just as much. I have been so fortunate to be a part of VCS, I will never forget the guidance and support that working here has afforded me.

I was an intern here at VCS and I can not express how much support I received from everyone who worked here. I could not have asked for a better internship and I am truly amazed at how much I was able to learn. This is the best place to take an internship because of the amount of support you get especially during challenging times. Whether you're a client, coworker, or intern, VCS is the place to be.

VCS inc. is doing great things for the Rockland community. They provide low cost or free counseling services if you deal with certain problems. They are about to launch a Covid related counseling program for the elderly. Check it or refer someone to them.

Yes we do accept some court ordered community service - you are welcome to call us to discuss.
Yes we offer one-on-one therapy in several of our programs, and one of our programs (the Mental Health Clinic) has a psychiatrist who can prescribe medication.
No, we encourage self-care so you are welcome to take vacations!
There is a one-time fee for the initial volunteer counselor training (it is minimal to cover the cost of running the program, and there are scholarships available in some cases to help cover the cost), but once you complete the training, if you are accepted as a volunteer, then there are no further costs from that point onward.
Hi Cheryl thanks for the question. There are several programs that are free of charge, some programs that have a small fee, and some programs that are covered by insurance. The free and small fee programs are provided at low or no cost since some are covered by grants and others use volunteers. If you call the front desk at 845-634-5729 you can get directed to the program you are looking for and then get information about fees.
There are many services available - you can find a list of them on our website at vcs-inc.org - they include mental health counseling programs, in-school counseling programs, domestic violence groups, student advocacy, programs for parents undergoing separation or divorce, support programs for caregivers, and support programs for older adults to name a few.
