After visiting and contacting MULTIPLE Clayton Homes in the area- we are so thankful we picked Clayton of Charlottesville. Nicole, Jim, Sydney, Marcus, and Jeff have been nothing but amazing. The sub-contractors they use performed quality work, and were quick to get the job done. We never had a question that went unanswered, and even during my most impatient times, they were patient with us and kept their word. Buying a home is stressful, but they were always a phone call or email away. We felt like we were part of their team, and even after the paperwork was signed, and the home was completed, they are still there working hard to make sure no stones were left unturned. Clayton Homes has muliple factories building the homes. Just like anything else, do your research and ask TONS of questions. Not every factory builds homes with the same quality. We are extremely happy with our purchase and the Marlette Homes Factory in Lewistown, PA.

I gave a 1star review after purchase of a Clayton Home. Then “then GM” responded as though he was concerned. That GM was the 2nd since signing the contract (by the time we closed, we had a 3rd GM). Took us over 2 years to have a modular home complete. For an entire winter, the home sat on the property in 2 pieces. We were fortunate enough to be able to observe the work once it finally started, but we were never allowed inside. Paid for covered, long front porch; watched them build the back landing with steps on the front. Called GM ASAP. The material used for the front was reused for the back with as many as 11 nails in same areas, railing has been repaired twice in 2 years. Was never allowed to see inside until day of closing, by which time I had been paying apartment rent @$1800/mo and extended a minimum of 5 times and had to get out of the apartment. Was given a quick walk-thru with punch list the day of closing. Told I had one year to have repairs/ corrections. We had contractors in and out of the house almost daily over that year. Management was so bad the contractors were getting annoyed and doing bare minimum. The 3rd GM would not honor agreements made during the signing of the contract, the workers were talking badly about him, we were stuck. 3 years since closing, we have had the refrigerator and washer repaired twice; there is still an air return that isn’t connected, no shoe molding ever installed anywhere in the house, so we see insects coming through from crawl space, had well pump raised and still paying a plumber to change the filter monthly (was told after first couple of months, that would be a semi-annual requirement… no!). Indoor trim is pieced together without caulking/sanding so it’s very apparent. Overall, I would give 0 stars if possible. Under no circumstances would I recommend Clayton Homes. From start to 3 years after closing, it remains a nightmare.

About 7-8 months ago my family and I picked out our home. We were working with Jenna who at first assured us that she had us and would get us in the home that we wanted. It took us four different lands to finally get a seller to agree to wait 90 days for everything to be done before receiving their money. But, the whole process to so long the seller back out. 6 mouths had gone by. In 5 months we found out that Clayton no long would build the home that we had pick out so Clayton tried to pick homes that we did not ask for. So if you have No home, No closing, and now No land. It took them a month to do an appraisal. On the first home we picked. It took another month for the second home we picked. But, because Clayton took so long by the time The second appraisal came the seller wanted out because they did not trust Clayton homes. Which they were right!. On top of having no home they kelp my $1000 Deposit. I have heard nothing from them at all. Not giving and apology. Very very bad business please keep your time and money.

Not all counties in VA allow mobile homes, for example, Albemarle Co. I don't know who might be able to give you a list though. It doesn't matter if it's private property.
