I called the location on Saturday 6/25/22. A robin was stuck inside our condo building. They were not able to come out to assist but the person answering the phones was kind and offered advice on what to do. I had called a few other places and none of them were helpful. I appreciated the advice given regarding catching the bird and what to do if it became injured from hitting the window. I bought a net and was able to get the bird back outside without any injury to the bird.

I recently found an injured goose and called to have it evaluated. The wildlife center staff member on the phone was very helpful and directed me to Chicago Bird Collision monitors who sent a volunteer to assist the goose.

Great place found a baby orphaned squirrel and they happily took him in until he's ready for the wild

Where would we be or what would we do without these angels? I was thrilled they took the duck eggs we saved last month. They gave us expert advice how to care for them until we could get them there safely. 9 out of 10 eggs hatched and are being cared for, yay! Robert, a volunteer was wonderful with updates.

Questions & Answers

I was just wondering if they had any sort of volunteer program or allowed people under 18 to hep around? I’d love to offer my time to assist in any way I can.

https://www.fvwc.org/get-involved/volunteering/ Complete volunteer policy can be found on the website. 12-15 year old can volunteer with an adult present.

Do you need any volunteers? I have successfully raised 3 orphaned squirrels that were so small their eyes were not opened and have successfully released them back into the wild.

Yes, we always need volunteers!

Do you ever have a need for crochet nests?

Yes, we do! We use them in the bird room. You can call the center directly for a good time to drop off any supplies. Thank you for thinking of us!

Do you take mice?

FVWC only accepts wildlife, so they accept for example white footed mouse but not a house mouse.

Do you accept used towels and sheets for the animals and where do you leave them? Thanks,

Yes, they do. You can bring them to the front door in the porch.

Do you take baby deer we can’t find anywhere to take it

They have in the past. Make sure you CALL them first thing in the morning for advice. You can also check the IDNR Wildlife Rehabilitation list (Google it). You will find a list of people and agencies licensed by the state to take in deer. Some might have an after hours emergency number.
