Our group eats at a different breakfast spot every week, so we have sampled MANY of the local diners. The Calico Cafe is not exactly for us “local” but we consider it “BEST within a reasonable drive time”! This little place has everything you would want and more than you expect. From the photos you can see the “small town diner” ambience is perfect. Of course, the best part is the food. As is required in the Mid-west, the portions are abundant. The eggs even have double yolks! Even more importantly, the food is excellent. I especially recommend the Biscuits and Gravy The biscuits are light and fluffy (just like Mom made!) The gravy is full of sausage chunks with a wonderful flavor. The bacon and sausage links that accompany most breakfasts are also extra special. Really, we have had every breakfast the Calico offers and you can’t go wrong. I haven’t been there for lunch yet but others in the group say the lunches are just as good. I can’t wait to find out!

A cozy small town diner. The cooks and wait staff are friendly and good at their jobs. Everything that I have eaten there has been cooked well and served at the proper temp. My favorite dish is their homemade biscuits and sausage gravy with eggs on top... I have to go their occasionally just to have it.
