Great little area for Hiking, camping, or a weekend getaway! There were probably 5 or 6 other campers out, but plenty of available space for tents and/or hammocks. Beautiful area!

Excellent free camping. My only complaint is that some of the campers do not pick up after themselves . But as I always say if you throw trash on the ground you are trash

It's a nice camping spot for very few guests. With a hiking trail right off a fairly busy road.

Site itself was awesome. The grounds are relatively clean, several locations to set up for the night. I will say if you are hiking or staying the night there, make sure you check yourself for tiny ticks. And I do mean tiny, I had had to look at what I thought was a little bite scab underneath the microscope to see that in fact it was a tick... Just a heads up.

Yes, the area is heavily camped and very picked over. Please be conscious of resources and do not harvest any living trees
You could park and camp at the Trail head entrance. But no motorized vehicals on Federal land. But I have seen folks in R.V.s camp out at the trail head.
To do so legally, it's best to get a dispersed camping permit from the forest service. That takes a day or 2 to process, but it's free.
Well Hiking and Mountain Biking just up the ways is Swamp Fox trail head and starting from there is the Steed Creek. Going further south from Halfway creek is Harrelston dame camp. So it could be.
There is not
I don't believe you have to reserve, it's first come first serve type of camping spots
Halfway Creek is Primitive camping. You either pack it in with you or you won't have it. First come first serve. It's free but leave no trace.
Plenty of wood, but you may want to bring your own dry kindling, such as a newspaper, since the ground cover tends to stay damp. The areas closest to the parking ring are pretty sparse with wood, but if you go a little past that, there's enough wood for everyone.
Last time I parked at a campsite I got a ticket from DNR there. Parking on the campsites, but parking is close. I suggest packing your gear in and play it safe because the ticket was expensive
