Lots of access to hiking trails, but lacking any of the normal park amenities that you would find at a normal park. However forest park is not a regular park so come prepared for on street parking and lots of hiking with great scenery. Consult maps ahead of time because the trail network is vast and it's always a good idea to be prepared. Not like bear mace and 3 days of drinking water prepared, but some snacks never hurt.

It's a beautiful place for a bike ride. Lots of trees and vegetation. The main trail (NW Leif Erickson Dr) is a former auto road now closed to cars. The surface ranges from smooth pavement to cobblestone and gravel but there are plenty of road bike riders; some going quite fast so be alert. Lots of hikers and dog walkers which are generally not a problem since the trail is wide. Only street parking with no way out at the trailhead, so you'll have a tight turnaround at the top of you don't find a spot.

We rode about 5 miles of the Leif Erickson trail. It's a beautiful trail for biking if you have a bike that can handle slightly rough terrain. I'd recommend it to anyone who enjoys a good ride in a beautiful setting.

My ultimate goal in Oregon was to hike some trails and see some breathtaking Fall scenery in the mountains and hills. This beyond exceeded my expectations. Their are distance markers and we hiked in 1.5 miles and then turned back. This was only because sunset was approaching. The trail we were on (Thurman street start) winded up and through the mountain. I️ couldn’t have asked for a better time of year to go. Inclines and declines were not bad. Wear trail shoes or boots! People were also on the track with bikes and dogs but you have plenty of space. Their are side trails off the main path with higher levels of difficulty but again, we went too late in the day to get too far in. What I saw though was enough to already want to go back.

If you're talking about the Lief Erickson trail at the top of Thurman, I believe there actually is a water fountain just on the other side of the fire gate where the cars park. I'm not sure if it flows all year long (if at all) or is shut off at some seasonal point.
