Everyone here is great. From the volunteer staff to the animals. The history behind this place is beautiful. Stephanie is an angel.

Beautiful facility and they obviously take good care of the dogs....HOWEVER the attitude of each individual that I talked to email, phone, and in person presented a hollier than thou attitude and extremely judgemental. Especially when describing the actions of their adoption committee, I got the vibe it was less about helping dogs and more about feeling charitable and having the ability to judge others. I walked away purely on the attitude of the staff, and adopted Daisy from Portsmouth Humane Society.

Save yourself time and heartache and avoid this shelter! Their adoption committee is clearly not motivated to match dogs with deserving individuals and families. Throughout our twenty-three years of responsible pet ownership my wife and I have rescued four animals. We are familiar with the need to be able to demonstrate good ownership through pet records to shelters but their process is broken. We offered to provide all of our pet records (all unfortunately deceased), but were told the committee needed to obtain them directly by contacting the clinics we listed on our application. We submitted our application on Thursday and we’re notified via text on Saturday morning that they couldn’t get in contact with our vet in San Antonio and were stopping our adoption process. The committee needs to do a better job considering the fallout for the individuals and families attempting to adopt. My wife and I waited 14 months after the passing of our dog to start looking again. While I was deployed, my nine year old son started talking about getting another dog. My wife and I decided it would be best to wait until my return so the dog could meet our entire family prior to adoption. Two weeks before my return my wife and son went to the shelter and saw two dogs that were a great fit for our family. Upon my return, we went as a family and both dogs were still there. We took an application home that night and discussed which dog would be the best fit for us. The next day, I submitted our application and we were shocked that after less than 48 hours of effort to obtain vet records the committee would deny our application. My entire family is extremely upset with their process and lack of effort. Additionally, if you are going to deny someone’s application at least have the consideration and courage to call someone like an adult instead of just sending a text. I highly recommend you avoid this shelter.

They go above and beyond for the care of dogs both young and old. They have expanded their facilities. Go meet your new best friend today.

We are a no-kill dog shelter and do not euthanize for space. Dogs are seen by local veterinarians for vaccinations and check ups. If a dog develops a terminal condition and the vets believe further treatment would not be beneficial to the quality of life, the dog is humanely euthanized. Thank you for your question.
Yes we would like to have them. Thank you!
Currently we are full for strays. You can take to peninsula regional animal shelter, Jefferson ave and briarfield rd.
Unfortunately no, because of insurance all volunteers must be 18 or over.
If they don't Peninsula Regional Animal Shelter in Newport News does and the the Newport News SPCA may as well.
We are not accepting any donations as this is our last yard sale. But thank you so much for thinking of us!
Our adoption program requires that other dogs in the home must meet the shelter dog you want to ensure compatibility. We recommend you first look at the shelter dogs without your dog to be sure you are interested. Thanks for your intetest.
We are a dog shelter only. Please contact the regional shelter or SPCA in Newport News.
Our adoption fee is $280.00 for most of the dogs. Senior dogs are half price or $140.00. All dogs are spayed/neutered, shots are up to date, microchipped, and treated for any existing condition they come in with. Thank you for your interest in our shelter.
Yes! You can stop by and walk a dog.
They have extended hours this Sunday...go check out what's available.
If you want to adopt from us we check the vet history of your last and/or current pets. Your dogs must have been on Heart Guard every month or you would be turned down for a dog.
No. They only have kennels fit for dogs. However shelters such as Peninsula or humane society have the space and proper things to house them :)
Our suggestion is to Google pot belly pig rescue groups first. We don't know of any locally, but there might be some within a reasonable distance. Another suggestion is to contact some veterinarians to ask if they know of any resources. Please do not list her on Craig's List. Animal control may also know of some contacts. Blue Bird Gap Farm in Hampton might be another place to contact. She sounds like a sweet little girl.
Please check with Animal Control first to ask if they have picked up a dog matching his/her description (933-8900). Sometimes stray dogs are brought to us by the person who found it, and you are welcome to contact us. If the dog is wearing a tag with a contact phone number, the finder will call you. You should also post a flyer in the area and post on Lost Dogs Hampton Roads on Facebook. I hope the dog is found soon.
Animal Aid Society on Butler Farm Road only takes dogs.
SPCA is the best option.
Not sure about age limit
