My boyfriend and I have been living at 1600 Penn for a year and at first we really liked it. I want to echo the reviews that mention how great Byron was and how helpful Robbie is with maintenance. However, since Byron left, the leasing/management office has been a revolving door of different Bernstein employees that do not care about addressing issues tenants are having. Bernstein employees are generally friendly when we raise our concerns, but never take any action. For example, we have been dealing with a cockroach problem in our apartment since March 2022 and Bernstein has been absolutely useless. Even though the building contracts with a pest company, management is rarely around on Fridays to let pest control into the building and does nothing to get to the root of the problem given that our apartment is not the source of the cockroaches . We’ve also run into an issue with our rent, because the person that was working in the office when we submitted renewal paperwork abruptly left the company and never updated our lease agreement. Since then, tracking down someone at Bernstein that can address this problem has been a nightmare. Had we known that these issues would be such a hassle and so prolonged, we never would have renewed our lease. If you have absolutely no problems while you are in the building, it is a decent place to live for a relatively affordable price, but the minute you have an issue, this place becomes a nightmare. I would also like to reiterate the issues brought up in Keena Harris’ review. The fire alarm has been pulled (apparently by teenagers messing around on the roof) a number of times over the last year, and there has been damage to locked rooms (storage, bike, utility rooms), damage to rooftop furniture, as well as bike thefts. It’s a city, some of these problems come with the territory. However, management could do so much more to help and they do not take any meaningful action. If you can afford to live somewhere else, I would recommend it.

We truly enjoy living at 1600 Penn! We moved in this past January. It’s a small community but we’ve met some cool neighbors! Andrea, the concierge, is AMAZING! She was gone for some time when COVID hit and things seem to go downhill. Packages were a mess and got stolen when she wasn’t working there. I’m glad she’s back! Robbie, the Maintenance supervisor, is very helpful!! He is very responsive, efficient and goes above and beyond! Besides hearing our upstairs neighbors kids run around we do not hear any other noise. We understand apartment living. However, we really appreciate Andrea and Robbie they make our experience here all the better! Update as of 07.06.2022 - Unfortunately, since I left my review a year ago a lot has changed. The property has gone downhill since Andrea and Byron left the site. After Andrea left they replaced her with an Assistant Manager, Byron, who was terrific, he was well organized, responsive, professional and things were improving the short time he was there but after they reassigned him to another property we haven't had a steady office presence since then. The fire panel is constantly going off, the package room is a mess along with the lobby. There have been a few bike thefts. The property seems to have been forgotten by Berstein Management. It appears they place all their efforts in their other larger properties and could careless about 1600 Penn a small 70 unit property.

I've been here for about 10mo now. The staff has been great from the leasing office to Rabbi in maintenance. Contemplating re-signing the only thing stopping me is how small the gym is (literally almost the size of your bedroom) and no pool. But the location is fantastic and the parking whether it's the surface lot or garage is probably the cheapest in the city for a luxury building. The community itself is small but hey, less noise! S/O to Byron who was amazing during my move in.

Overall the building and staff our great and I like my apartment. The lobby could have a better look and there are always opened packages in the package room, which makes me nervous.

why is there never no one in the rental off to answer the phone?

Nowadays it's hard to get stuff accomplished on the phone (now that we have everything hands free- go figure) have you tried making a phone or in person appt via email? Or it's possible the rental company is under a larger real estate/rental company's umbrella, in which case the email will be categorized accordingly..
