Beautiful views, well kept paths, a nice little walk.

The sundial was awesome! It was too cold to hike to the mound, so we'll be back another time. Road going up is very steep, and there are signs saying 4 wheel drive should be used. Well kept area, even in December.

Beautiful place even in the middle of November. There are small hiking trails, perfect for small kids or folks who want a scenic view of Galena!

Nice place to walk around and see some native plants. The top is great for a picnic and you can see some great views! There’s not a lot of trails so there’s only about an hour of walking but it is pretty. The parking is decent sized.

Questions & Answers

Can you skip driving up the gravel path by parking somewhere nearby and walking up?

We would prefer visitors drive up. We don't really have parking available except at the top of the mound.

Is there a map of these trails anywhere? Trying to get an understanding of how long the hike will be. Thanks!

There aren't a lot of trails, we were there maybe an hour or so. You can learn a little more here: http://jdcf.org/properties/horseshoe-mound/ One loop, though, is on a steep hill and takes some time.

Sorry, there is no train station in Galena

Are there hiking trails?

Fairly easy trails, well groomed. Just a heads up one is steep.
