A blood parasite test is done once a year as part of your pet's annual screening. A negative result is required annually in order to administer or dispense heartworm prevention. If a patient is heartworm positive and we administer a pro-heart injection or other heart worm preventatives, medical complications can occur. Additionally, some companies require that a negative test be done prior to administration (the pro-heart manufacture included) in order to guarantee the products effectiveness warranty. Our doctors consider many of these factors including the length of time-lapse when determining if a test is warranted. Mr. Melton, I just called you and left a voice message to discuss our safety protocol in hopes to explain why we are being so diligent about the wellness screening. I welcome the opportunity to discuss this further with you. I hope that you can understand that we are not turning you away and would be happy to see your pups under our current safety policy. We can see them and you in office with a wellness screening or curbside should you not be comfortable with the wellness screens.
