This place was a nightmare. I was told we would be on the second floor by the salvation army. That is a lie. Everyone is down in a dilapidated basement with no real rooms. The rooms are alcoves set into the wall, no doors, not even a screen for a little privacy. The bathrooms were filthy, with feces all over the walls and filets and there was no toilet paper. There were bugs everywhere when the woman turned on the light in the alcove that we were supposed to sleep in. We were supposed to be in a family area with other women and children. There were obviously grown men hanging out of the bunk beds. Prison inmates have better facilities than this.

Staff is abusive . This shelter is not a good place for women and children. Also it's overcrowded . It's filled with homeless men who look predatory. Felt like jail. Don't go.

I stayed there Monday evening and I ended up getting bit by something. Also my son ended up getting smacked in the face by an older kid which caused his nose to bleed and then bruise after. The mom seen the incident and did not say nothing to her child. He was a few years older than my 4 year old. Also one of the security guards stole my pepper spray and knife. I never received it back. During breakfast time I was 8 months pregnant and the lady yelled at me and told me wait to be called even though there wasn't a line and everyone else got their breakfast. The people are very rude and ghetto there.

Single Women have to be referred by Catholic Charities, 10 S. Kedzie, Families have to be referred by Salvation Army 924 N. Christiana. One may also go to any local police station or hospital to let them know you are in need of shelter and they will call Catholic Charities or Salvation Army for you. I believe the process is the same for Single Men. Apologies to you for not getting an answer.

I used to stay at this shelter it is a great place to seek shelter the staff is amazing and compassionate they need to come to the shelter before 11pm the in and out times you can stay in if you wish to but curfew is 11pm unless the case manager lets security know that the individual is going to be late and has a late pass for work you can leave in the morning and come back in at 12am for lunch then you can leave out again and return at 3pm they need a social security card or id if they don't have that then the case manager can help them obtain the id and ss card

How do you get in the mission
