The Gilbert Art Walk is an amazing place to spend a Sat morning on the first and third Sat Oct-March. The wide variety of artist they have there is like no other place in AZ. I enjoy seeing all of the families and dogs there. The music is nice to listen to when you just want to sit in the grass and relax.

Water Tower Plaza is a good place for just about anything
There is a splash pad. And at night it lights up. As for a play structure, there is not one. However there is a park near by. SW across the railroad. I think it's called veterans park.
