Don't bank here. They don't want to give you your money when it's rightfully yours to withdraw. Isn't the purpose of asking for ID when someone is wanting to cash a check simply to PROVE the person is who they say they are? That's it. Prove who you say you are. Well... I went in today and offered up SEVEN FORMS OF ID (four with photos), wanting to cash a business check made out to me from a law firm for which I do consulting work (and have for 20 years). To verify I am who I say I am, I had on me a BIRTH CERTIFICATE, a SOCIAL SECURITY CARD, my PHOTO ID BANK CARD (from BofA), and: EVERY PHOTO CA DRIVER's LICENSE I'VE EVER HAD FROM THE PAST 20 YEARS... but because my birthday was TWO WEEKS AGO (and thus my CA Driver License past expiration by 14 days)... the manager would not even ATTEMPT to THINK FOR HIMSELF, to recognize that the REASON to ask for ID is to prove the person's identity... MR. BRANCH MANAGER: DID YOU DOUBT I AM WHO I AM -- AND WAS ABLE WITH SEVEN FORMS OF ID TO PROVE I WAS? NO. You did NOT doubt my identity. You simply did not want to GIVE ME MONEY THAT IS RIGHTFULLY MINE. Isn't that the definition of a THIEF? Someone who takes -- or in this case KEEPS -- money that rightfully belongs to you? You KNEW I am who I say I am. You KNEW that money belonged to ME, but still you refused to give it to me. YOU'RE NO BETTER THAN A COMMON THIEF. Either that, or YOU DIDN'T HAVE THE POWER TO OVERRIDE. LOL! That's probably it. You must not have the POWER to cash a check - even for your own mother -- unless she one of the forms of ID that your bank claims is "valid". I did not fault the Teller for turning me down, since it IS her job to abide by bank policy. But a "manager" is supposed to be the one who can evaluate any situation and THINK OUTSIDE THE BOX. I even suggested this "branch manager" call the BANK CLIENT -- the maker of the check -- but the manager couldn't even be bothered to give the BANK CLIENT a courtesy call. (And so now the bank client, an attorney, is going to have to leave her practice during business hours to go to the bank with me to get the check cashed.) The bank manager's reason for not cashing my check? It's "bank policy" that one needs either a valid Driver License, Military Card, or passport. So let me get this straight. If I do not drive, if I do not serve in the military, and do not travel abroad -- YOU CAN'T CASH MY CHECK? EVEN AFTER I PROVED TO YOU THAT I AM WHO I SAY I AM? The reason the bank manager gave me was, "I'm not going to go against bank policy to cash a check." Is it REALLY "BANK POLICY" to deny someone their money simply because she has NONE of the three forms of ID that Union Bank claims are the only way to prove one's identity? What about those of us who do not have any of those forms of ID? (I actually have a passport, but all of my belongings are in storage and therefore my passport is inaccessible to me.) Mr. Manager, Is it not a matter of PERSONAL INTEGRITY to do the RIGHT THING? In all good conscience, do you REALLY think the "right thing" to do was to KEEP MY $2600, when it was obvious I am me, there was NO DOUBT OF MY IDENTITY --- and it is RIGHTFULLY MY MONEY? I even tried to appeal to your HUMANITY, by telling you I have NO MONEY -- not even enough to put gas in my car. Thankfully, I did make it home, but I had my doubts. Although now I have no way to get to work tonight because YOU KEPT MONEY THAT RIGHTFULLY BELONGS TO ME WHEN YOU KNOW IT RIGHTFULLY BELONGS TO ME. God knows, Union bank needs my $2600 more than I need to eat or to put gas in my car so I can go to work. And, by the way... DO YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE WORKING FOR? UNION BANK FUNDED THE NAZIS. (Look up Prescott Bush and Allen Dulles.) So you're one of THOSE -- a man who cannot think for himself, who'd simply do what he's told without thinking for himself -- EVEN WHEN IT GOES AGAINST HUMANITY, or in this case when it goes against HUMAN DECENCY AND HUMAN KINDNESS. You're either a small-time, powerless man, or you simply are rigid and inhumane.
